87' cylinder and head in a 88'
#2
I think you are better off with the 88 up head and cylinder. They are supposed to be better because of the larger, additional head bolts. I have only had trouble with my 87 when the top hose came off the radiator. That cracked my head!

Well, im kinda needing a new one(not really new, but mine now is torn up bad)
Do they sell aftermarket ones?!?!? =) or anyone got a 88' cylinder and head?
also does having the 87' in there effect it at all?

There is nothing wrong with running the '87 cylinder and head. In fact, the '87 has a larger reed cage/intake which produces a freckle more HP. (Yes, you'll need the '87 intake boot and reed cage too)
The one thing you should consider doing if you go this way is to have a machine shop install the studs from your '88 into the top of the '87 cylinder (They are 10mm instead of 8mm)
That should eliminate any head gasket blowing problems that the '87s are known for.
I'll buy your old cylinder and head from ya! Interested??
