nail in tire, what to do???
#1
Went out for a ride, arrived, started to unload quad, realized there's a nasty ol nail stickin outta the tire. Tire still holds air, but don't know what the next step is. I've heard people talk about plugs? Is that a good solution? Do I take off the rim and take it to a tire shop like Les Schwab and have them fix it? I've never had to deal with this before on a quad so I'm at a bit of an impass as to what to do. Any advice is great. Also, does anyone know what the rim should be torqued down to on the 03 Z? Thanks in advice.

Pull the nail and plug the hole yourself. You don't even need to remove the rim from the quad if you don't want to. Get the tire plug kit at a pep boys or hardware store. Atv plug kits are rip offs. Friends and I have had to plug the fronts and rears many times. I have a tire with eight plugs in it and my friend has 12 in his. I know it isn't safe. I am just trying to milk some more out of it before I spring for a new tire.

Out here in the east we get holes all the time. Ive known a few guys with so many plugs in their tires that they looked like they were growing hair. Get a cheap tire plug kit from Wal-Mart with "self-vulcanizing" plugs(means you dont have to use any sealant). The plug will last for the life of your tire.

Well we think very highly of plugs! We were in a creek bottom about 30 miles from anywhere and cut a tire down playing in a creek. The tire took "14" plugs and never leaked. I think we just eventually wore out the tire! A WHOLE lot cheaper and easier to mess with. Any Walmart, part store can sell you a plug kit.
