No, stock HP is in the mid 40s, The 52-55 you speak of is a little high, even at the flywheel. The 40 or so hp comes from the rear wheels. I have seen many 500s dynoed over they years and I have yet to see any of them break the 50hp paltform in stock form. Make sure that you are on a dyno that is set up for quads and not streetbikes or midgets, it will not be accurate otherwise.

Oh it will most certianly be off on a car dyno. And it will be neither high nor low with any certianty, It could be low at one given rpm, but high at another, the point is, you really need to get it dynoed on a quad specific dyno, actually, they are motercycle dynos with different information input into them. The drums (rollers) in a car dyno can weigh anywhere from 2500-4000lbs, where a mothercycle one will only weigh 750-1000lbs, the dyno measures resistance and how eaisly your vehicle can turn the drums, so as you can see it is much easier for a quad to turn a drum that is 1/4 the weight on one that is ment for a car, this does not mean that you quad is making 4x the power that you got, the final numbers may actually be correct, but I would doubt it, a quad dyno will give you a far more consistiant reading. You said that you are making anywhere from 40-50hp? Well, thats a big difference, if you are in the 50hp range with just a pipe and jetting, then I would venture to say that your figures are not very far off. If your 500 feels strong, then it most likely is ok, I dont know the state of tune in your bike, jetting, ring wear, ect, but if something was seriously wore you would not be getting in upwards of 50hp, considering that your numbers are acurate. Pull the jug off of it and have a look at your bore and rings, this will be one of the biggest signs that the engine is in need of maintenance. Do a search on "quadzilla, lt500 stock hp" and you will find many people have dynoed thier 500s with the majority of the hp figures in the mid 40s. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, I live within 10 min from High Lifter, they have a in house dyno, and within the next week or so a friend of mine will be dynoing his 500, it will be set up as follows. Stock head but milled 30thousands, and bowl blended, stock compression, top end porting, LRD pipe, 41.5 carb, Boyseen reeds and Duncan K@N filter kit. Ill post the hp figure for you when I get them.

cool i cant wait to find out what they are. but that is why i had it dynoed because i felt that the motor is falling off to soon and it dont run like a 2 stroke. but the motor is all apart and the guy who looked at it said there might be something wrong with the way it was ported so i am gonig to take it to a place here and see if they can clean it up and try to make it better
