what is the correct torque on A 89 zilla head I read an article on off-road.com that states that the 4 bolts should be torqued to 40 footpounds even though the manual states 25 below is the excerp from the article

"Compress the rings with your fingers and while inserting the cylinder with one hand through th center of the the down tubes, slide the piston into the bore. Slide the cylinder firmly down on the base gasket, install the four large nuts and torque to 40 ft-lbs (the manual says 25 ft-lbs, but it lies, the gasket will blow). Tighten the three smaller fasteners at the front to 10 ft-lbs."

is this correct I am sure they know what they are doing but it scares me to not stick to the factory guidelines

Since you obviously do not know the difference between a cylinder and a head (he is writing about the cylinder by the way), you should not be anywhere near that quad with a wrench in your hand! As far as Mr. Dune's suggestions are concerned, ask to see his engineering degree and the scientific data he has compiled to show that his recommendations are valid! My guess is that he merely made an assumption and hoped to God that he was not doing more harm than good! Don't get me wrong. Mr. Dune may be on to something. However, base-gasket-surface warpage and cylinder base nut area stress (a big issue with a built 500) are a couple issues that I would bet he is not considering.

I,ve been working in engines all my life. I know my way around an engine. I knew what zillagod meant but thought it would be pointless, arrogant and maybe a bit pompous to correct him. A better way to have corrected him would have been to ask him if he was talking about the head or the jug?

sorry for the confusion obviously I meant the cylinder because I did ask about the 4 bolts I have been building big block chevys for over 15 years and I have never had one come apart yet. this is my first two stroke motor that I have had to do the top end on so I thought I would ask A simple question I did not expect an answer like triples. thanks to all the guys who did leave comments. the motor is back together and I hope to get it fired today. I did check with A friend who is the local service manager at the zuki dealer and he agreed with mr. Dune so that is the way I did it.
