Eiger vs. Kodiak vs. Wolverine
#1
Well I will be buying my first atv this fall and still a little undecided. I think they are pretty close in performance wise and they are all in my price range, or more importantly my wife's price range. lol. I need someone to push me over the edge keeping in mind my 2 favorite aspects: speed and mud! Any input would be appreciated Thanks!

I am going to say it depends on what you do. If pure sport fun is what you want you want the Wolv. It could be better but as of now it has the best suspension motor trany combo going for sport riding. It is well balanced stone reliable and the ergos are well sutied to agressive riding.
The other were all designed as utility first with sport added in and to me it shows. If you want a mud runner or work quad the Wolv's shine will fade some, no hitch and no low maens it has trouble turning larger or more agressive rubber and you will need to buy an optional hitch for work.

I have the Eiger and my brother owns a Wolverine. In a drag I can get a little jump on him and then we stay about even but I seem to have just a slightly higher top speed (it probably isn't the case with the heavier 4wd). Running on trails he has to work hard to keep up. The Eiger has better lowend power and will pull harder. The Wolv. is more eager when wound out. When I ride the Wolv. it feels like I have to shift a lot more to stay in the power. If you are talking mud and want serious tires you can rule out the Wolv. It also allows you to get far muddier than the huge fenders on the Eiger will. There are definitely more mods for the Wolv. The Eiger allows some serious work to be done with its low range. The Eiger also gives you switchable 2wd /4wd.

If your doing deep mud you might want to go with the 5spd Eiger. No belt to get wet. Kodiak only comes auto. The Wolverine is not a mud machine with the high gearing. The choice seems clear to me, but you didn't say if it had to be a auto. The new "450" Kodiak seems like a good deal. Front locker like the grizzly for 6200. I would still buy the Eiger.

I owned a 96 wolv. and I can tell you I was NOT impressed. If I was useing it for pure trail riding maybe, but like mentioned,You shift your toe off ..I put about another grand into it,(i.e.dynaflow jet kit, e-series muffler,k&n filter, tires, ect.)it helped some but i still was not happy, but then again I wanted something for hunting, camping ect. ect.
the Eiger fit's the bill, I can do everything with it,hunt, camp,go mudding, and play around on the trails..all bone stock...
