ratio

Back in the day, the oils did not provide the lubrication of todays synthetic oils. Therefore you had to mix a larger concentration of oil with the gas. Grab a good synthetic oil and you can mix about 2-3 oz's of oil to 1 gallon of gas with no problem.

Get your self a ratio-right mixing cup from your local dealer to measure the oil and make it the same every time from now on. Changing your oil ratio will effect your jetting so be prepaired to re-jet once you change. Ask around see what oil everybody runs and make a choice. I always ran Golden Spectro which is a patrolium/synthetic blend at 40:1 (3oz to a gallon) and never had premature wear on any of my engines. It doesn't smell cool or claim to add HP but it saved me a butt load of money in maintenance costs. Oh yah, be prepaired to replace your spark plug, something about changing to a new oil that eats the plug.
