Default Hot Cams vs Stock Cams Dyno

Here we go boys. I was at Trinity last night and Harry helped me degree the intake cam. With about 5 degrees advanced, it went up to 48hp and gained more torque. I posted the dyno for this and just for fun I had Harry run a dyno sheet comparing the stock motor to where it is now. At the top end it is creating yes, 30 more hp than stock. I now have more torque than the motor had hp stock. Trinity Racing has the magic touch.

Hey WP I bet you got one of the hardest running, if not the hardest running Z440 out there.

AND Harry, I think you and the guys do an awesome job. Way to make hard running motor run harder.

What have you set your centerlines to then after all the work for this 440 motor?

What do you mean? I have Harry help me with everything and I have never heard this term before. By the way, the cams are great and for mx I can't see going any more aggressive.

WP,

When you talked about setting the cams 5 degrees more advanced. What you are doing is actually moving the centerlines of the lobes forward 5 degrees? Or did he stabilize the cam and rotate the crank forward 5 degrees? I'd be curious as to the exact centerline of the lobe now. Harry should know what I'm talking about if you don't. Thanks.

We losened the two bolts, marked the cam to gear relationship, then bumped the cam lobes forward 5 degrees. We used a modified degree wheel to get the number. We may try more, but we need to check valve clearances first. We did all of this to gain more bottom end back. With the new ignition and these cams, it really revs out good, but I still need that holeshot power.

WP,

So what you are telling me is that you run the intake cam timing, only, to 103 deg and left the exhaust cam timing set at 108 deg, which is what it was at when you bought your cams. Interesting. Thanks.

We are just experimenting. Do you have any other settings that you would recommend? I am running a 440, port and polished, 12.5:1 comp, 41 carb and wonderful Hot Cams..

WP,

I haven't had a lot of time to think about it yet. I have to tell you though, Harry is one smart cookie and a great engine builder. I'm kind of curious what 105/105 would be like on the Big Bores. 103 in seems pretty extreme to me personally, but like I said earlier, I don't get to play with any of the mod stuff. And with the seperation where it is at now seems a little odd too. Although we run 102 ex, 106 in on the YZ250F. Keep playing with it, Maybe try 106 in, 104 ex. Who knows.

I will tear it apart tonight to inspect for any wear and for valve clearance. Then I will have Harry take a look to see what he thinks. By the way, I am thinking of putting a kick start on my bike to shave off 28 lbs. How hard is it to kick one of these over (or DRZ) without the decompression release?
