Default Hot Cams vs Stock Cams Dyno

Here is the dyno on the Hot Cams vs the stock cams. This is my 440, p&p, carb, and pipe. You can see the noticable top-end gain and the loss of bottom. I have a race at LACR this weekend and I will get to see how it responds on the track with the cams. With the 440 kit, it has so much bottom-end I don't think it will affect it much. The final result is 47.3hp up from 45hp with a 7hp increase at top. It carries straight to the rev-limiter without much drop off. The lack of a decompression release was not an issue even with my high compression. I hate to go any taller of a grind in fear of losing more bottom. Only testing will show. I also added a few pics of some jumping at Glamis this weekend. These were some of the better ones- note to self: hire new photographer. Thanks anyways Smitty.

Is the dyno on ther link in your signature? I couldn't find it. Sounds very impressive though! What are the specs on the cam? Was there a torque curve on the dyno as well?

Nevermind, I just found it on page 2. Those are huge gains on the top end! I'm not sure what kind of racing you do, but the loss of midrange does look pretty substantial. I'd be willing to bet you need to check your jetting for the midrange. Cams that build that much power on top have a tendancy to run pig rich around 3000-3500, which really kills power. It looks like a 5hp loss in the midrange, but I bet you can get some of that back. The area under the curve on the top end with that cam is very impressive compared to the stock cam!! I bet it pulls hard. Does it feel like it has a two stroke power band when it hits? Congrats.

Unfortunately my first ride with the cams was at the dunes and I never had the 440 there before. I will see this weekend at the track though. This bike has so much bottom-end with the 440, I don't think it will hurt it much.

Well, I did lose a little of my holeshot jump, but it handled real well on the rest of the track. I talked to Harry and he said we would put it on the dyno and try to get some bottom-end back by retarding the cams a little. That is one nice thing about the Hot Cams - they are adjustable. If I can find the happy medium between holeshots and track power I will be happy. I can say that they took me to the overall win.

Harry McDermott,
This is way off the subject but please tell me what you think. I have a lt500r with a .040 bore 155 cranking pressure. I keep getting a 4 corner seizure? You once told me I could go to 170 psi and run pump. I dont belive my piston clearance is to tight either. What do you think. Do I need higher octane than 92? I also have a brand new Water pump(not overheating). It seizes pretty quick. I never make it to high rpm`s. I am very confused. PLEASE HELP. You can email me at Jason454@prodigy.net
Thanks
Sorry WP. I dont know any other way to talk to Harry.

170 compression is pushing the limit of 92 octane. If you have a head mod that has a bad squish angle you could go into a detonation situation. A good ported and piped motor can also cause some of this to happen because it would run so efficiently as to create more compression when the pipe comes into it's power curve pushing you into a detonation problem because of low octane. I would also have your CDI box checked, because it could be affecting you timing and that could cause the problem also. It could also be too hot of spark plug, air leaks, lubrication issues, The list goes on. I would recommend that you seek out a good dyno facility and have it checked.
