z400 motocross setup
#1
Hey everyone! I just purchased a new 400 and I want to set it up for motocross. I dont have thousands to spend and some info would be great!
Which pipe? I was thinking CT or Trinity
Rear axle? I hear it's weak.
nerfs?
bars? Can I mount tag bars on stock clamps?
Any other info would be great!

Tag X-5s will mount but T-2s won't.
an axle would be a good idea. A-arms and shocks would be in order after you get a wider axle...
I'd get a Lonestar axle. they've got a rep. to be tough as nails. if you get a wider axle and stock width in the front you'll notice it'll dive a lot in the corners... not good. there are plenty of A-arm companies... making an extremely overpriced product that is sometimes designed with asthetic appeal on the forefront and performance on the backburner... I don't like the A-arm companies that much.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU WILLING TO SPEND. I PUT DIFFERENT WHEELS AND TIRES ON MINE AND IT HELPED HANDLING ALOT. I PUT A 10X6 WHEEL IN FRONT. IT MADE IT A LITTLE WIDER. I KEPT THE BACK STOCK BUT I DID PUT MY QUADRACER WHEELS ON 1 RIDE. MOTOR WISE I WOULD JUST PIPE AND JETT IT IF I WAS YOU. I GOT DURABLLUE AXLE FOR MY QUADRACER AND FRONT WHEEL SPACERS. I HAVE NOT TRIED THE WHEEL SPACERS YET SO I DONT KNOW HOW THEY WILL DO. EXTENDED A ARMS A VERY EXPENSIVE. I HOPE MY WHEEL SPACERS WORK GOOD ENOUGH. ALSO WORKS SHOCKS WOULD BE A PLUS IN THE FRONT AND THEN GET THE BACK ONE REVALVED AND SET UP FOR YOU. I HOPE I ANSWERED SOME ???

I would not go with wheel spacers unless you don't do any jumping at all. And if you are want to go faster on the track, then I would look into shocks. You can have the fastest bike around, but if you can't put the power down, or take the jumps smooth, the slower bikes will easily smoke you. After shocks, then go for motor hop ups. And on the axle, it's a good idea to replace them, but it's not a necessity, especially since suzuki is using a different axle then the first ones they were putting out which were having problems with bending. Oh yeah, with those shocks, put some new tires on too.
