Default LT250r sprocket size help

i was wondering if anyone could help me chose the right sprocket size. I was running a 14/42, but i wanted to drop my front sprocket to a 12 or 13, would it make that big of a difference?......I mostly ride woods, so i was looking for more low end, What would be the best?thanks alot

Default LT250r sprocket size help

DROPING A TOOTH IN THE FRONT IS LIKE GOING UP 3 IN THE BACK. I was going to change my gearing but I like the stock pretty good. Droping one in the front would be cheaper but if I was wanting more gear I would get a 43 rear. Thats just my opinion.

You're better off lowering your front a tooth or two for a couple of reasons. Fronts are cheaper and increasing the rear a few teeth reduces clearance between the chain and skidplate. One hit from a rock could bend the skidplate against the rear sprocket. It's happened to me before.

Go back to the stock gearing 12/42, best set up for low end woods type riding anyhow.

Default LT250r sprocket size help

HI, I'm new to these forums and I've only got a couple of years on 4 wheels, Before that I was a 2 wheeler. Anyway I ride alot of woods myself, I have an 85 lt250r and I went to and 11/44 and I love it, I can just ease around the trees, and i find that its great in the pits too, but I have to use 3rd gear to go up the hills that I was taking in 2nd before, But no big deal, there's still 2 more where that came from
