Default Quadzilla - Had enough, Need some info

I have owned my LT500R since I bought it new in 1987. It is truely an awsome machine but..
I have had enough. I am tired of fouled plugs, blue smoke, top end repairs and the infamous
2-Stroke shuffle.
I still love the LT500 but I want to put a 4-stroke engine in it. Can anyone give me information about
the posibility of replacing the 500cc 2-stroke with a 4-stroke motor? I would like about the same
power of course. I would need to know what engine to use and what body mods would have to be
made to fit the engine or the name of any individuals or companies performing this modification if it is
at all possible.
Thanks

I have seen GSXR 1100cc put in. They have to cut and reweld the bottom of the frame to fit the engine in.

Fouled plug's,Blue smoke?? what kind of 2-cycle are you burning??Crappy 2 cycle oil will do that, what ratio are you mixing the oil to gas at???I have'nt once foulded a plug in my Zilla.Oh and a cheap oil will not lube the piston properly, not like Klotz or Castor 927.What's your jetting set at???But anyway the GSXR motor sound's like a winner.

You have to cut both top and bottom frame tubes. Then fabricate a new top brace and bend new bottom tubes all the while trying to keep the frame straight and true. You also have to build a new gas tank and put it somewhere. It sure is a blast when you ride one though!

Hey OldSandMan,
Would you, could you, might you have pics of the process you performed to get that motor in there?

We just gutted my 87 zilla and a 98 CBR600 race bike. The Honda Airbox is Nasty and proving to be a big problem (why couldn't they do like Zuki with indv carbs I dont know).
What was your solution for the Fuel tank as well?

Any informtaion would be greatly appreciated and maybe even rewarded!!! Where is Arbuckle? I am in San Diego. Go to Glamis much?

Thanks in advance..
Rob aka Chummin

For sale!

Bored .20 over. Port and polish. Just put in a new water pump. Runs decent but needs a new head gasket. The last owner did not torque down the head bolts correctly and they came loose blowing the gasket. It blows some coolant when riding is what tells me that. BUT there is no mix in the engine oil. Good compression.
Carb is in good condition. Lower case was repaired according to last owner.
FMF pipe and silencer
All electronics also.

Make an offer.

Hi Rob,

I can't believe you don't know where Arbuckle is! London, Paris...We're 40 miles north of Sacramento.

I do have some pictures but I don't know how to post them here. I could e-mail them to you if you like.

I removed the air box and ran individual k&n air filters. On the 600 you can use 900 air horns in place of the 600 air box. You will have to re-drill the holes on the horns to match up with the 600 carbs. Then use the k&n's. The gas tank on mine has been relocated under the seat in the rear subframe. It also contains the battery.

I don't get to Glamis often anymore...One of my daughters goes to Cal Poly SLO so I've been going there (pismo) lately. But I might try Glamis this spring Saint Anthonys this summer and Whinchester in the fall...not sure when though.

Hope this helps, David aka oldsandman

There is a bunch of us heading to St Anthonys for 4th of July week. Sound fun? Great Idea on the horns. I will pass it off to my buddy the Mech-nic who is helping me out..

Thanks a ton..
