Getting more power from Z400?
#1
Hey guys,
Just got my new Z400 15 days ago and have been loving it! makes me look like an awesome rider anywhere! and the wheelies? forever! 5th gear atleast two miles long! Only problem I've found is power. I raced a friend with a Banshee w/full exhaust and it was kinda depressing how much more top end he had. I can get him a little off the line but by 3rd or fourth gear he is pulling up and past me! What can I do to make some more power? I see cams/valves for the Raptors but nothing for the Z, maybe too new? Also I think $1,800 is a RIP for a big bore. I was looking at turbo kits for the Raptor/400EX and 70RWHP would do me just fine, plus I love turbo stuff (own a 94 single turbo supra OWNS!). Is there a better motor? weight reduction? also having trouble with the police being faster in my area...

Even just a FMF header, pipe, and K&N really perked my Z up. I think the Yoshimura 450 is a good choice. It has stood the test of time, at least in the dirt bikes. But, as I recall it is pricey. If you go real big, you will definitely have to reinforce the frame!!
Interesting that you mentioned riding with Banshees. Most of the guys I ride with are older, and bought Shees back when it was the only game in town. Well, I am now kicking their butts!! It isn't that the Z is faster on the top end, it is because the Z HANDLES SO MUCH BETTER. Any time the trail is the slightest bit technical or whooped out, I leave them way behind!!

Those $1800 dollar big bores are engine kits that usually include piston, rings, sleeve, cams, pipe Etc.
I personally like the CT453 kit that does not include a pipe, it is only $1450 and includes a 41MM FCR carb. Then you can choose whatever pipe you want. I like the MBRP.

hotcams are 159$ per camx2 for z400, 39mm FCR would go nicely, may wanna go 40mm if you will be goin big bore though. i have yoshi full pipe, and alba airbox kit, with 14/39 gearing, 22" tires, and it outruns banshee's up top, if you ever hit your highest rpm. but would definately benefit from a 440/450 kit. i will probably go 440 for now, maybe hit 450 in the future.

I have the Trinity exhaust system, but since it was sent back to Trinity over a month ago for the logo to line up correctly I havent been able to ride it. I sure do like the sound and top and bottom end it gave. If I were to buy another pipe, I am thinking real hard towards the MBRP, only because I live in California and the new db laws that just came out that I would go with it because of the low noise and HP gain you get at the same time.
