Default lt500 case insert problem

I bought this quad about a year ago, tore the motor down to freshen it up. It has had the brass inserts put in the crank journals, my problem is that whoever did the work machined out the cases to far as to go all the way through in a couple of spots, so I have air leaks there. Has anyone else had this problem, the work was done before I bought the bike. I would sure like to know who did this so I don't ever send any work there again. Been trying to jet this thing for a year, couldnt get it right, so we preasure tested it. Any help would be appreiceated.

88 lt500 stock except for fmf pipe,39pwk carb,v-force reeds,k-n filter.

I was told that the brass inserts were for the 87 model and steel inserts were for the 88, 89, and 90 engines. This doesn't help your leak issue but you might want to confirm this before you re-assemble so you get the right inserts installed. Sounds like the shop didn't know what they were doing.

Some metal epoxy (JB weld and others) is your best bet. I don't think you can TIG that casting very well.
As far as brass vs steel that was up to the machine shop that did the work. Some use brass because it expands faster than the housing it is pressed into, thus keeping it tighter.

You guy's took the word's right out of my mouth,JB weld, but tig welding it is better,if your good at welding aluminum cast.If you do weld it,machine down what you need and then put a couple coat's of jb weld over it.Trckracer I will keep that in mind about the brass insert's,My Zilla don't have them yet but when it does I will make sure they're brass.
