Z400 or Predator???
IOWA!!!!
Where are you from in Iowa? I am about 25 miles south of Des Moines. I think a Z/KFX is the best "all around" quad you can get right now. It is above average in every category, and is very affordable and easy ride. I think you will be more than satisfied with it if you choose it. Good luck, and congrats on a new ride.

"The shocks and power would be great though. 45 HP at the rear wheels? think thats what I've heard.
The extra 45 pounds would not be so good though, and modded Z's are easilly getting 45 HP."

Where are you seeing these modded Z's easilly getting 45hp. The must be heavily modded to get 45hp. The pipe shootout for the Z with the lid removed at best was getting 33hp. Even at FSW, a piped and jetted Z only got 29hp. Sounds like you would have to get a big bore kit to get 45hp out of the Z. If there is another way to get it, let me know, my brother is tring to get more out of his Z, and was dissapointed of the HP gains for a pipe.
Also the weight factor isn't much of a issue. My brother and I switch bikes a lot, and yes the Pred is heavier. But it's so well balenced, you don't feel it. Then we weighed the tires. My tires weighed 13lbs more then his, so if he put the Razors on, there would be a 30lb difference instead of a 43lbs. But the Pred is 2" wider, has a beefer rear axle, 2" wider A-arms, 2" longer wheel base, bigger motor, my front shocks are way beefer then the Z's, I have a rear rezzie, bigger skids, plus the extra of the Pro Steering, which makes a big difference in handling. There both great, so don't be to harsh on the Pred. By the way, the Z is also a first year model.

Z400 or Predator???
Zukikid Thanks for the comments!
Quad rookie, Unfortunately it is much louder than stock. It does have a nice rumble and sounds great but when riding near houses or neighborhoods I wish it was just a little quieter.
I agree with the weight on the predator, when riding it feels pretty nimble, I was shocked when I got off and tried to lift the back end it was pretty heavy but does not feel heavy riding it.

Without big bore kits they are getting 45 HP with Z's, its basically everything else though, pipe-porting-compression-carb-cams-intake etc. Trinity also makes a 50 HP kit for the Z, its a 440 bore with all the goodies, pricey little kit $1899, but thats what you get with 4 strokes. With 50 HP a 43 pond lighter Z would blow away the Predator with ease.
The Predator is by far the better value, you'd have another $2500 into Z mods to get the same power to weight ratio and simalar shocks up front.
The Z400 was a first year model, but it used a 3 year old bike motor-tranny and was built by a company that had built quads like the Quadzilla 500.
The Predator may carry the 43 pounds well, but thats a lot of extra weight.
I'm happy to see Polaris make the Predator, it was about time they did. With the Predator you get a great machine at a nice price with some nice features, but im still glad I got the Z.
The light weight, handling, reverse, and silky smooth tranny make it the perfect quad for me.
