King Quad problem with brakes.
#2
Mud man, please be more specific.Did the brakes work and all a sudden just quit?Or did they gradually start to not work.I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but the KQ has the absolute worst braking system that I've ever personally encountered on a 4x4 quad, and I've owned a 87 KQ,my brother has a 97KQ which I maintain.Do you go mudding alot?Do you encounter alot of water? You will have to be more specific before I can attempt to head you in the right direction.==BILL

The very first thing you need to do is remove your front lug nuts from the wheels.[jack your quad up first]You will see your brake drum.It will pull right off.Once you get it off,you will see A TON of debree in the drums and on the brake shoes.Wash this debree off the drums and shoes with your garden hose.Take some Brake and Parts Cleaner and spray everything down with it that you just washed. If you have an air compressor, blow dry everything completely dry.You will see a self adjuster in the brake assemble,it's the thing with fine little teeth on it,stick a screwdriver betwwen the two and that will allow easier drum installion.Do this to both front sides. When you are COMPLETELY done with both front sides and have BOTH front drums re installed, pump your brake lever 4 or 5 times, the self adjusters will activate and bring your brake lever up.If the lever fails to come up,than you probably need to replace your front shoes.Tell me how you make out with the front brakes,I'll help you with the rear to,===GOOD LUCK,BILL

Mudman,good job.OK,now for the rear.
The rear brake is a single brake, located on the right rear of the quad,it is alot harder to get to than the front brakes.
Remove the tire. You will see a rubber cover on the axle,it is black and says Suzuki on it.Remove the cotter key, remove the large axle bolt. You will see about six 10mm screws that surround the outer drum cover, remove them,water/debree will gush out upon removal. You will see your brake drum, remove it.Clean all the brake shoes and the drum as discribed for the front brakes. You will want to use waterproof grease on the rubber seals upon re- installion of your drum and parts.Dont forget to adjust the rear brake cable that is located near your right knee when you are setting on the quad.It is your rear brake adjustment.
STAY OUT OF THE MUD,the KQ has the worst sealed brakes of any 4x4 quad around.====BILL
