I am in search of a motor builder (or 5) to give me a quote on the motor.

I wouldnt mind making it a real LT!!!!

the frame and other metal parts are done.

I need an exhaust system, plastic, swingarm, and other things.

I am at the early stages of bolting this thing back together.

thanks for the input

Bing, talk to Jeff at Tacoma Motor Sports. He has an Lt and had some motor work done to his. He could probably point you in the right direction.

So what is everyone's opinion of the '85-'86 LT250R's??? I realize that the engine lacks a power valve and the transmissions lack sixth gear, but I'd like to hear some opinions of these machines performance and reliability...Thanks. (maybe I'm using the wrong thread for this)

they are OK if you want a cheap quad, but there isn't a lot you can do to them as far as beefing them up since they don't have a powervalve or a reed assembly like the other years have they also have really small ports and parts aren't as readily available for them. The motors like all the other Suzuki LTs are fairly simple to work on and build. I can totally rebuild one of these (splitting the cases) in about 2 hours if I really need to.

If you fixed one of the problems, then something else went wrong. If cylinders weren't so damn expensive, I probably wouldn't have fixed it.

Bing, how about an update on your LT250R project?????
Hey you will have that on a Zilla... Seems like mine was either blowing base gaskets, blowing water pump seals, powervalve sticking, or transmission messing up every time I rode it. I got to where I wouldn't ride it unless I had at least $300 saved up to spend on it. Like I said I am getting goods at tearing it apart and putting it back together. Owning a Zilla makes you an engine building pro in no time flat!

BTW I had some extra cylinders at one time.... For the LT500 and for the 250..... around here I am the person everybody comes to for parts - even the local bike shops call me and ask for stuff....

DirtGirl,

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll need some Suzuki parts down the road. But thanks to eBay, I dumped my entire Quadzilla collection in one big auction. I was tired of messing with it...Quadzilla's place too many demands on time, tools, and most of all...money. This year's Veteran's Class National Hillclimb Champ bought my running '87 Quadzilla, three complete engines, extra Quadzilla parts bike, and my entire collection of miscellaneous parts. Maybe I'll get another 'Zilla down the road...I kinda doubt it. I'd rather stuff a CR500 engine into a 250R/400EX frame if I want a 500cc two-stroker. Take care...

Nice to meet you people. I have one of the fastest 87 lt250r around. If you want a fast one FTZ racing doestn't screw around. I have there port job with a 1986 yz250 piston. 240lbs. cranking compression, the super fat FTZ pipe, 39mm keihen carb and the expensive FTZ ignition. I never knew how much of a diference a performance ignition would make until I tried there's. I also have a banshee done up from them that is a unbelieveable rush. These guys no there stuff. I have had a LRD, CT FMF, PSI and a trinity pipe on my machine and none of them performed like the FTZ PIPE. They have the best 250 pipe money can buy period.

Believe me you don't want a CR500 motor on a 250R frame! You ever ridden one of those? They vibrate something fierce... That and the 250R frame doesn't handle that motor very well. The 250R frames crack bad enough with the stock motor in them - the CR500 just accelerates the problem. In the bike frames the KX500 doesn't have as much vibration as the CR500 so that might be a better choice for a motor but I never seen one of those done on a quad so I don't know.
