Big bore kit for LT250r?
#1
I think I'm going to get a lt250 to work on and turn into a drag and sand machine. What are your views on going to a bigger bore or do you think I should stick with stock bore? What other mods do you suggest? Thanks!!
And "Automaniac" please no Polaris comments. Just kidding big bro.

That may be true dirtgirl but as with anything "There is no replacement for displacement" you can bore and stroke the older ones to I think 310cc or even more not positive on that. As for other mods....port and polish your cylinder, going with a bigger carb, reeds, pipe and running alcohol are the best mods that I can think of right now.

Yeah but the 1987 and newer ones had the power valve cylinder... the other ones didn't and there aren't nearly as many parts available for the older ones...
One day, I will get another LT250R to replace the one I had stolen from me.......

They are all 6 speed as far as I know.... The 1988 and newer ones had more bolts in the reed cage and you can interchange parts from an RM250 in those I think... also another power trick is when you redo the topend use the Cometic gaskets in it. They are thinner and give you a little more compression. Also if you are using reeds other than Pyramid, add a spacer to it....

Wow your true color is showing with your knowledge, but as for them being all 6-speed... I wish. The 1985-86 LTs are 5-speed. If my 86' is a 6-speed it's missing a gear on top then, cause it only does 72mph

Greenbud; Just passing on a bit of info. When I put in my V force 2 reed cage, my reed spacer (Trinity) would no longer fit. The V force cage is slightly wider and the spacer won't fully seat down on it. You can remove material from the inner walls of the spacer and it'll fit just fine, but just wanted to let you know.
On a side note, the 88-92's had 6 reed bolts
