Default LT250R tranny slippage

I have a lt250r, when I take off slow and shift through the gears everything works fine,
if I hit the gears hard it revs to the moon and doesn't do anything, kind of like when
a car gets low on trannny fluid. If if anybody has any suggestions I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ron

Sounds like your clutch is toast. Take the clutch cover off and check out your plates, springs, and basket. Did it just all of a sudden go, or gradualy?

Yep, your clutch is toast! I just changed mine again a few weeks back. It's no big deal, really simple job that you can handle yourself. Make sure to inspect everything once it's tore down though. I had ordered all the plates and springs before teardown and I found the little needle bearing behind the plunger that activated the clutch was in pieces also. That was probably my whole problem, but it acted like the clutch was slipping. Best of luck to you.

The cases were just split and the insides rebuilt, thought something might have been
put back together wrong, the plates and springs have one race season on them.

broke out the calipers, the plates, springs and width are all not even close to the wear specs in the suzuki manual.
I did notice on the clutch basket the fingers or what ever they are called that stick up on the sides that the plates
slide into, they are wavy or not straight and smooth, both sides of the fingers are like that.

How are they supposed to look?

that means your basket is grooved.the clutch plates are getting hung up ...file it down for a quick fix or buy a new basket.....

i guessed i would have to take about 1/16 off each side to get them smooth, so i am looking for a basket now.

I just took mine apart the other day. I had the same identical problem, clutch slipped but the plates had plenty material left. I also had grooves in the basket. All I did was shim the springs with a washer, it locks up real good now. I had the same problem and solution on my lt230. The correct solution would be new springs but I didn’t have time before the weekend to wait on parts.
