JeffP's list sounds right on to me. I wouldn't recommend that you take off the whole air box lid. From my experience, we had this done to our Polaris and it ran HORRIBLY! Might be different with the Z, but I don't know. Good Luck.

I like my setup, beats stock raptors.

K&N Alba ProFlow Kit
Dyna-Jet Kit
Romove air box lid (TOO MUCH RESTRICTION)
Full Trinity Stage IV Exhaust

Hold on and let her rip!!

I really love this bike but love the Pull on my Raptor.

Air Box lid removal = more air to motor, remember your motor is just a big air pump. Yeah your quad will run crappy if you only take the lid off, you have to rejet it. More air means more main jet, usually just a bump in the main jet size. The reason not to do this is for water/muddy conditions.
Parking brake, you know how you have that big ugly perch on you clutch, extra cable, and your parking brake dosen't work wortha crap anyway? Remove the whole assembly, bolt on a block off plate on the rear brake calaiper, install a new clutch perch and lever (get one for a CR dirtbike). Looks a lot cleaner, no performance gains. You have to take the two wires that run fron the perch assm. and tie them together. It used to be a block out, soyou couldn't start it with out the clutch in. Now you will be able to start it any time. Including when it is in gear, so be careful (turn key off all the time).

Out of all my mods, I like the shocks the best. The shocks will make you go faster in the trails and MX than say, a pipe.
Shocks
steering dampner
skids
HMF slipon and lid mod

Just a few I've done, I'm not quite ready to dive into the engine just yet.
Oury grips-will definitely make your hands thank you.
Rear rotor -vented will stop the squeek you will have soon!
Clamp on air filter-I used a Pro-design foam, did not trust the factory set up to stay sealed properly.
Case saver-cases are expensive, savers are $25.
Removed warning plates and plugged holes with stainless hardware- Improved looks 100%.
AC front bumber- stocker is teeny & the AC looks great!
Aluminum skid plates-shock link & rear-stockers suck and broke easily.
Nerfs-got Pro-armors on the way,all my riding buddies have them and like them so I'll give 'em a try.
All the mods I have done either fixed weakpoints & little problems of the Z or make riding more enjoyable for me. I aint a good enough rider yet to take advantage of a more powerful engine but I'm sure I will want more power in the near future!

I know that removing the lid and a rejet would be an improvement, but he's saying taking off the whole airbox itself, leaving just the filter with nothing around it! That's what i meant when I said it ran horribly.
