High or Low gear?
#1
I have a 2003 Vinson auto. What should I use the low gear for? Is it better to use the high gear in the mud and the low for towing or is the low gear preferred for the deep stuff? I would really like to hear from other Vinson owners.

Im not a Vinson owner, Im a Eiger owner but I can tell you this, its better to use Low gear in mud also. Alot of people use high gear and either Bogs the engine down or just bury themselves. I just take it slow and if i start slowing down or spinning i just rock her and shell dig and catch grip and pull right out. I tryed flooring it through mud in high and it dont get me no farther. Also if you ever put mudtires on your ATV you better use Low or your tires wont budge if the muck is bad enough or sumthing is going to give if you strain it hard enough!

Use your low gear when you are just puttin around like in the woods or just doing work around the lawn. In low gear your belt is spinning faster than you are moveing. Like a fan belt speed keeps things cool and make them last longer. As far as the mud put her in high and roost somthing, tire speed keeps the tread clean so you have traction.

Imma have to argue a lil bit sorry, but low gear in the woods?? Your engine is going to be running at a higher RPM going slower and wearing the engine. I can understand High in some types of mud to keep tread clean but real Muck like around here you aint going to keep in clean, and bogging the engine is also is not good for the engine, I hope you dont have it in High 4WD with Mud tires or sumthing is wrong with you.

Hey Eiger4x4 explain your post. Does having it in High with 4wd in the deep mud put too much strain on the axles and cv joints? Is that what you meant and why you'd recommend low gear for mud?
