dealing with flats
I bought a little 12 volt compressor and a plug kit. New tires will help. I run graphite powder in my truck tires and might try it when I get new tires for the vinson

You didn't say what kind of bike you have. If it is a utility, you have the option of carrying a lot more equipment that might get you out of a bind out on the trail.
Here is what I do. First of all, I run good quality tires that are way tougher than stock!! Holeshot XC's on the sport bikes, and Holeshot ATR's on the utilities. And, I RUN FIX-A-FLAT IN THE TIRES. That way, if I get a pucnture out on the trail, it just seals itself and that will get me home. I know there are pros and cons to using fix-a-flat, but all I can say is IT HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN. In thousands of hard a$$ miles of desert and mountain riding, I have NEVER had to limp home on a flat tire!!!
As a backup, I carry a kit to plug any holes that might be to large for the fix-a-flat to handle, and a CO2 inflator to reinflate the tire. (I have never had to use it, but I have bailed out a lot of other folks with it!!)

i carry a little tire patch kit with co2 cyls in it, got it from cabelas, but evryone makes one. better yet, ditch the stock tires, theyre usually junk. just buy a tire'wheel set youll get a better deal that way. but if yer on a budget, its a little bag with co2, a valve stem adapter, and some push in plugs, goop, and tools. OR you can take it to a tire store and have them put tubes inside the tires. that works sometimes too, depends on the conditions. Here it's volcanic rocks..very sharp edges. after two flats in 1 day i went with holeshot xcts, 6 ply, but its a sport quad. no more problems. the flat kit stays in the truck now.... hope this gives you some ideas.
