Arguing on this topic will be pointless. 50% of the people do a lot of riding and jumping. The other 50% just ride a little and drag race. The Honda is superior I hate to say. But I will say that the LT despite what people think is a good quad. Why else would they have kept building until 91? That was the first manual clutch quad for my wife and I really liked it. But when it came time to upgrade........... she is now on a Honda. I have never been a Honda man, but I have learned that the truth is the truth. You can pick up a decked out LT for under $3K anyday.

Hey, when you fire up and head out across the dunes, it doesn't matter whether you're on a slow 250X or a full on Banshee, you're RIDING and you're not WORKING. I love my 87 LT, if I woulda bought a 250R instead I'd love it as well, and I know my suspension isn't as good but in the dunes it works and they run pretty close to the same. There's always someone with more expendable cash who's faster, so I don't let it bother me as long as I'M having fun, which I am whenever I'm riding. The other old bastards out there like me will probably agree, after 40 it ain't worth the effort to talk smack, you just enjoy every day for what it is. (but I guess a little bench racing doesn't hurt much either........)

Hey Bubba297, I like how Suzuki kept making them till 91' its just that after Honda blew'em outta the water at the track, why didn't Suzuki improve the Quadracers handling.

it might have been timing. All of the 250's and others seemed to disappear at that time due to the people all over the ATVs and safety and things like that. It would have been too much by that time to change the frame and suspension I guess. Like I said before we really hated to get rid of the LT.

Hey guys, Suzuki made the LT's up to 92, not 91. Anyways, for my 2 cents. I own a 86 LT250 and my Brother owns a 86 250r. Both of ours have some port work(he has more porting), pipe and some other little goodies. His quad is faster, but has also rebuilt his top end about 4 times, and I have only rebuilt my topend once. Also, At Olds hill in Glamis, I can beat him over the woops every time, but after the woops, his power beats me. However, I have done a couple more mods since the last time we raced. I may be able to beat him now. I can can beat a pipe z400 at the hills, and hang with Raptors. I have no complaints about the handling of the LT250 or the reliability. Also, nothing structuraly has ever failed. Since it is a question of one verse the other, I would say if your racing go with the R since R&D has hung around for it, but for anything else, go with the Suzuki, because like some else said, you can modify the hell out of a LT250 for less than you can buy a stock 250r. Including purchase price, I have less than $2000 into my quad, and I am beating $6000 new quads up the hill.

Dont take this the wrong way bob, but a 250r honda is much cheaper to modify then a suzuki. Take a look at lonestar's website. Compare their prices on their chassis components on the LT250, then look at the 250r. Since there is such a higher demand in 250r aftermarket products, lonestar can produce their components as fast as they can sell them, opposed to the LT stuff which will sit on the shelf for a month or so. This way they keep their costs down to be competitive. So yeah, 250r's are cheaper to modify then LT's. In the end, there is just too much technology and R&D put into the honda's for the suzuki's to compete. The largest LT ive seen was a 250 with a 350 top end. The largest 250r ive seen is 520cc's.

Beech man. Dont take this the wrong way, but you missed the point. In everyday terms, most people arent boring their machines to 500cc+. Second, most prices I have seen for parts are close, like pipes, motor work, cool heads porting, pistons etc. Lonestar is not the only place to get parts you know. Second, you can purchase a Lt250 anywhere from $1000(needing minor work) to $2000 ready to go and with some mods. A 250r will cost you starting at $2500 and going up from there. So in most cases by buying a Suzuki you already have an extra $1000 to spend on parts. Also, if you had actually read my last post, you have noticed that I already said that the R&D has stayed with the 250r and for racing you can get the best parts, but for the average person needing a good quad and looking to put on a pipe/reeds/port/carb/etc, they can do it cheaper by going with Suzuki.

Beech man, I just went to the Lonestar website, and all I want to know is..."Where do you get your Pot" A-arms, axels, hubs etc, all had the same price between 250r and Suzuki. Do me a favor, know your facts before speaking
