Default help with rear shock..

hey guys i have an 88 racer and i was wondering how to adjust the rear shock properly. i have a stock shock still and its still works real good yet. there is a push button deal at the top whats it do? and then there is a small dial towards the bottom?which way do you turn the dial and whats it do? also are there any other adjustments i can make to it?i realize that tighting the sping down makes it firmer and more rebound. any help would be great. please only reply if you know whats going on.. thank monty long
