The z is a awesome machine. For the track the 400ex is still the bike to beat. If Honda would put a modern motor on it the would sell the sh-- out of them again.

 

The Z is only faster in a straight line. Through trails and other normal riding, the difference is negligible.

 

it depends on the rider on the trails.

In a straight line the z-400 is faster on top. Mostly they hold dead even till you hit 4th then the z pulls away a little bit.

 

without a doubt the z400 is a much better bike the the 400 ex. I had a 1990 blaster that had a trail porting, reeds, k&n filter, timing advanced, barnett clutch, LRD adjustable pipe & silencer, head shaved, and more mods and with a 105 lb rider on it he could beat 400 ex's. I just got 2 new z400's and when we took them to the dunes i raced about 10 400 ex's and there was only one that beat me because he had a LRD big bore kit and everything done to it and was all chromed out. My stock z could beat a 400 ex with pipes and some little mods done to them. the suspension on the z is way better then the 400 ex's for jumping and woops and everything else. THe z is a way better bike all the way, that is why it beat the raptor, the 400 ex, and the cannondale in the sports quad shootout in all the magazines.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Sure you could beat a 400ex with all those mods and a rider that only weighed 105lbs. lol How many people weigh 105lbs and want to put that much money into a Blaster? I'm sure that same Blaster, if it is as fast as you claim, wouldn't be too far from the Z either!

I honestly cannot take all kinds of people pretty much saying the 400EX sucks. I agree with kevlt250r and 2000blasterbeater. The 400ex is still a competative quad. It is a little slower than the Z400 and has air cooling instead of liquid cooling, but it also has an easier chain adjustment and is proven reliable.

Oh ya...It is a shame that the Cannondale didn't win that shootout.

no matter what quad you own you will like it best. Thats the final thing i have to say about these arguements, i had a 330EX i got ragged on so much because it was a 300..but i loved that bike and i miss it dearly, but i love my z400 more :-D
