03 660 raptor has no spark while cranking, but as soon as you release the start button it will throw a spark.. will pull start. checked all the grounds.. has a new battery. runs fine after pull started.

I'm having the exact same problem on my 1988 yamaha warrior..... Every now and again I can trick it by letting off and on the start button repeatedly... Can you elaborate more on the safety switch theory

there are usually a number of kill switches that will ethier not allow the engine to start or shut it down (not being model specific just general) clutch, nutral theres usually the ignition and a seperate kill switch on the handle bar on a motercycle there would be one on the kick stand and they complete the curcuit to ground there may even be one on the recoil starter itself i'm not familiar with your paticular models wiring. now if one should faile or malfunction that would prevent it from starting but i wonder what all is incorperated into your starter button assembly because it sounds like by pressing the starter your grounding the ignition or theres not enough amperage to carry both the starter and ignition that i would attribute an excessive restance in the curcuit have you tried using an adjustible gap ignition tester or even a spark plug that you narrow the gap to see if you have no spark or if its just weak when you crank it over
