Default Why no spark with 2001 warrior??

I have read several threads with people having the same problem, but there are many different answers. I have no spark when turning over with the starter, nothing to the coil or thru the orange coil trigger wire. However with pull cranking or pulling it off it will start right up and produces a great spark. Why does the slower rpm's produce a spark when spinning it over with the starter will not? Many have replied that the CDI is bad or the stator or coil, spark plug, trigger, plug wire, etc. What gives? What is the correct answer? Have checked continuity of all wiring and it is fine, even tried a buddies good CDI, no difference! Changed key switch and run switch, checked all connections, no change! Getting frustrated and do not want to spend $100's to find out it is some small, little thing that is easy to fix. Just about to take it to the shop for a diagnostic, but still want to repair myself. Any good answers to this problem? Thanks, Mark

it sounds like the stator is the most likely problem. i mean you basically have a checklist of things that could go wrong. since the orange trigger wire isn't getting juice, the problem must be occurring at the CDI or before the current reaches the CDI. you should break out the multi meter and run a few test on the magneto/stator. it will tell you exactly the problem. if you look at some of the other forums on the warriors there is a link to the manual witch will tell you the exact test result you should get and witch wires to test. starts on page 290 in the manual.

by-the-way i took my warrior to the Yamaha shop for them to diagnose and they charged me $90 to tell me that the harness, the cdi, the coil or the stator could be bad. basically a bunch BS. thankfully i didn't have a battery when i took it there and when i got home with the atv there was a new battery in it

unfortunatly when it comes to servicing ignitions systems we like to think that the shops have far more sophisticated tools than s but its just not true basicaly all they have at there disposal is a multimeter they comonents themselves are not that easily tested and most of the procedure involv replacing whith a known good one its in most factoy manuals but basicaly the trouble shooting will go like this first check wiring and kill switches the kill switch sounds like a resonable possibility in my oppinun then you'll check the resistance measurements on the stator/coil also check the magnets on the rotor this can be done with a screw driver if its drawn strongly to the magnet your good you'll have to have the factory specs to compare to on the measrements also they can very whith tempurature and may not be conclusive any way but none the less if every thing checks out then its probably the cdi witch is not all that common i realize that theres alot of maybe's and could be's but thats the nature of not having the old points and condenser sorry! but dont over look somthing simple like a bad spark plug and especialy shorts in the connectors and if you see any thing physicaly wrong with any component replace it it's bad hope this helps
