Default low cylinder pressure 2002 bayou

My 02' bayou went from running fine to not running at all. Took it to a Kawasaki dealer and they said I had 52 psi in cylinder and I know anything less than 100 it probably won't run. How do I know if it is a stuck valve etc. or a burnt piston. Where do I start? Thanks

You can do a leakdown test. (Inject air into the cylinder and see where it leaks.) This will tell the story.

You need a tester like this to check whether it's a piston or valve problem or both. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Leakdown-Tester-Engine-Cylinder-Tester-Kit-Set-Case-/290688595391?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item43ae63f5bf&vxp=mtr One hose plugs into spark plug hole, air hose is hooked to one end of the tester. Adjust the air pressure normally to 90- 100 psi when engine is at tdc.Someone may have to hold the flywheel from turning under this pressure. One gauge shows amount of air supplied, the other is what the cylinder is holding.Normally if the pressure difference is greater than 20-25% engine work is needed. Plus you can listen through the exhaust for an air hiss, sign of exhaust valve problem. Also you can listen at the back of the carb for any air, indicating intake valve leakage. There usually is some air loss at both places. You can also remove the oil fill plug and check for any bubbling. Sign that pressure is bypassing the rings. It's really best if you pull the engine down to replace valve guide seals and at least lap the valves along with a new piston and rings if needed.
