Default Carburetor Help!

Hi everyone,

I know very little about the way an ATV works; I bought one to learn how to work on an engine and an ATV. Today I took apart the carb to install new gaskets and to clean the inside. I put everything back the way I found it but when I hooked everything back up, the gas shot into the air filter instead of the engine. I know that I put it on the right way because the choke was on the same side where "Choke" is labled on the ATV's plastic. I also checked the float to make sure it was okay and I don't see anything wrong with it.

It is a 1996 Honda TRX300EX if that matters at all... Please help!

Thanks,

Eric

Have you considered getting a good shop manual?

IDK much about carbs but could the floats be "messed up". I did the same thing with my '05 300ex carb and never had that problem. Or mabe the needle is in wrong. IDK much but I hope I'm helpin you get some ideas.

Yeah thanks, I got it workin though.

Turns out that when i cleaned the jets, it cleared them up and prior to the clean, the pilot needle was set to compensate for the clogged jets so when i cleaned them it screwed up the settings. thanks everyone anyway
