Default 05 Ozark Mikuni Carb is flooding...badly

Heres what I've tried so far
Trial 1 Cleaned carb - still flooding
Trial 2 Super cleaned carb - still flooding
Trial 3 New carb kit (moose factory spec) - still flooding
Trial 4 New float from Suzuki - still flooding

The only thing that has not been changed is the float seat. (I don't think it can be in this carb).
The new needle seems sloppy. Any one know the clearance between the needle and seat?

Can this be anything other the the float, needle, or seat. My hair has turned grey and I think is starting to fall out.

Any help is appreciated.

If it feels sloppy, then there is your problem..you don't want any slop. sounds like the tip of the needle is worn.

Angry needle and seat.....

The new needle came with the kit. It seems sloppier than the old one. The seat can't be removed. It looks like it is pressed into place and it's blind from the back, so I can't press it out from the other side or just unscrew it out. I can't find jack about this carb on the web. The spec sheet for the bike says it's a BS29.

I'm at a stand still. I'm so tired of putting it on then having to take it off again. The next install will be #5. I'm getting faster at it though.

How does the seat look? Maybe you got a bad needle. This is indeed strange... Can you pull the seat out with a pair of needle nose?

I've tried 2 needles and 2 floats, The original set and a new pair. The seat looks clean. I'm skeerd to try to pull the seat out. Afraid I'll damage it. Any idea how much clearance there is supposed to be between the two. The needles are differnt shapes. The original is more square with the replacement being more round and sloppier.

Also, I'm thinking of hooking it up to the tank, with the bowl off and manually working the float to see if it will seal off. You ever tried this?

All the time. That's how I trouble shoot many problems like this. Sound like they gave you the wrong kit?? It should shut off with very slight pressure.

Not your problem, but here is a story for you. Was racing about a month ago and the carb started to dump gas out of it. Took the float bowl off and turned it over. The float hit the roof of the bowl. What the @#$@#$??? I have never seen that before on a Holley carb. The adjustment was way off. I tried to readjust it but ran out of adjustment.

The problem was the rubber tip came off of the needle.

Very strange. I have never seen or even heard of that before and hope I never do again.

ok, i have fixed the flooding. I hate to admit how stuuuuuupid I am, but I had the "pri" line connected to the vacuum port on the carb. It was dumping gas staright into the head. DUH. I reconnected it to the other side of the carb, now when in "prime" it feeds fuel directly in the bowl. The only issue is that it flows out the bowl drain until I switch it to the on position.

Where does the vacuum line connect, or does it just hang unconnected?

Now it will idle pretty nice, but won't take any throttle. After it warms up idleing it dies. I can restart but have to hold the throttle wide open. It revs up good, a little sputtering, but won't idle down without dying again.

I've turned the mix screw from "0" to ~3 turns out. Doesn't seem to make any difference. It almost seems like it's not picking up enough gas from the bowl, to get into throttle mid range, but I'm not for sure.

Thanks for any input!

I went back thru the thing again tonight, and found the small plastic spacer on the main jet needle was not aligned properly. There is a small tang on the spacer that fits into a small hole in the base of the slide. This may have been restricting the needle from rising, although I thought it was sliding well enough. Trial number 6 starts tomorrow night.
Any comments are more than welcome.
