Default High oil temp??? Foreman 450S

I just bought a 2003 Honda Foreman 450S. The battery was dead when i got it so i used the pull start to start it for the first time. Fires up first pull, idles perfect, runs great. As soon as you start the engine, the oil temp light comes on and stays on. I felt the oil cooler, ice cold. Checked the level, full. Could this be because the battery is dead? The display doesnt work without the battery so maybe the oil temp sensor/fan module is not working either, causing the oil temp light to come on? I just dont want to harm the engine before i get to try it out. Its got low miles and was hardly ever ridden. Any help would be great.

Did you replaced batt.?Prolly is the alarm unit>>>It makes the the oil temp light come on when temp increases then makes the fan come on!! It is located up front up under front fender in center of atv next to the cdi[ignition box] the alarm unit in the smaller of the two boxes..You may do this redneck test!!!Take an screw driver on handle end and tap the box pretty hard while watch the temp light to see it blinks or goes off while tapped box!!!This is an quick and easy test works bout 95 percent of the times for me!!! Ino someone will chime in on this BUT I have used this redneck test for 25 years and works bout 95 percent of the time!!!Get back with us after this test!!!Good Luck
