Default Low compression on sportsman 500

Hi I bought a 1999 polaris sportsman 500 the machine wouldn't start it had poor spark so I pulled the recoil cover off cleaned up the flywheel got good spark but still wouldn't start so I did a compression test only have 75 psi . I haven't messed with 4 strokes much and don't want to put alot lot of money in this machine (been out of work since july with a broken leg)
What are the odds it's just the valves need to be reseated ? Ihave the valve cover off and thinking i'll just pull the head check the cylinder bore.
I don't have a ton of money in the machine and could probably do ok parting it out.
any help would be appreciated ,thanks

The 500 has a automatic decompressing system, a regular compression test would not be accurate.

My 500 pulls starts easier then my 250 Moto 4 did.

Not really sure, we have a 97 with 8000 miles on it that runs great. There was a post of one not starting until the guy clean his carb.

The only issue I heard of the 500 Fuji built motor is some times the exhaust cam lobe wears out, but the motor will still start but backfire out of the carb.
