Default Starter Issue

I have a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 that the starter was removed from and taken apart. The armature was left out and the grease, I believe it is grease, has dried on the armature assembly and is rock hard. I dont know how to remove the dried grease without damaging the armature. Is there anything I can soak it in that will eat the grease away?

Im not sure what to "soak" it in...But I can give u a number to "Carolina Armature Works" here in NC....they can point you in the right direction...they actually rewind stators and do all kinds of electric motor repairs
