1999 sportsman 335 problems....HELP!
#1
My wheeler is acting like its running out of gear. It's over reving at 10mph. Back fires like a sob when I come off the throttle. I took the clutch cover off, pulled the clutch. Seems a little worn but not overly. Just put a new belt on and still having the same problem. It's almost acting like the primary clutch isn't squeezing the belt enough, so the belt isn't riding up on the primary. Need some advice please. Options on trouble shooting.or has anyone encountered any of the same issues??

Usually on something like this the driven clutch causes the most problems if the ramp buttons are eaten up.Item#17.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Pull the belt off and see if you can push the drive clutch in and if it retracts back ok. If it's sticking, then could be worn bushings. I've had bushings so worn that the clutch could get cocked and counter weights could hit the shaft and stick.Item#3 and 13.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse You could try to blow out belt dust in an open area and see if it helps, but probably wont if the clutches have never been off and looked at over its 17 year life span. Plus with the belt off you can hold the back sheath of the driven clutch and turn the outer sheath and let it snap back. If it's rough feeling or has a metallic sound to it,the buttons are eaten up.

Thanks for the input!. I ordered a new primary today and am hoping that fixes the problem. I am confident the problem is in the clutches. The motor is sound on it. It needs a exhaust gasket, but don't think that would cause such a problem.
