Honda FourTrax hitch Reciever
#1
1987 Honda Four Trax 250,(2 wheel drive) Bolted a 2" receiver on so I could use a rack
Guide Gear ATV Cargo Carrier, 300 lb. Capacity - 608503, Racks & Bags at Sportsman's Guide
Problem is when loaded it causes the axle to rotate and makes the atv too light in the front end to steer and the loaded rack drags.
Is there a way to mount the receiver so as to balance the weight? I appreciate any help or ideas.

That type of rack is the worst for lightening the front end up. If you want to use, the best way to fix the problem is to add weight to the front if you have a rack up there. Only other ways I can think of is to get a welder to add a section of square tubing to get it higher off the ground. At least it won't drag but it doesn't solve the weighting issue. I don't think moving the receiver is going to help. It would have to be moved forward to get the weight over the center of balance and I don't see how that's going to happen.

Just make sure the heavier object is on the front rack. As for dragging the 250 Recon has 22" tires stock on the rears , you can move to 24" or 25" tires to rails the rear.
I had 25" back tires on my 1987 250 Yamaha Moto 4 and they helped with ground clearance.
Cheaper would be to make two 2" wide x (up to you) long brackets with 4 holes to match the bottom's 2 holes and top section 2 holes to raise it. Just but one on each side.
You just need two more bolts and reuse the two originals.
Why would they make it for a full size 2" hitch for a atv and only 300lbs? My SUV has the more compact 1-1/4" receiver and its rated at 3500lbs.

You should have 1/3 of the weight on the front and 2/3 on the back. If you put it all on the rear you'll keep having the same problem, especially with the weight that far out. Maybe half the weight should go on the front to make up for it.
