Default Turning my 150cc Taotao into a snowplow

I bought a 2016 Taotao atv 150, bull150 and I need to make it a snowplow. I tried the Swisher universal mount 2646. It doesn't work. I have also purchased a warn 50" plow. Is there a mount I can purchase and put on to make it a snow plow? I hope I don't have to have it customized.. I know I need to buy a winch and push bars. Can someone lead me in the right direction?

Chances are very slim that anyone would make a mount for that machine. Are you sure it has enough power to push snow? If you overwork it you can cause some damage to the drive line. In all probability you will have to create your own mount if you feel the machine is capable of pushing snow.

X2 There are a few things that you need for pushing snow. Power, traction, and clearance. I take it the snow in the Poconos runs the gamut from light, fine powder to heavy wet snow like we have in New England. You need power to push that. I think a 150 with a semi-automatic transmission, without low range is asking for trouble. Most important is traction. A 2wd just doesn't have as much traction as a 4wd so you won't be able to push as heavy a snow pile as you could with a 4wd. Even with chains you'd find the 2wd pretty limited. You also need clearance so the plow has enough room to go up so you can back up from snow piles you create. The blade will ride up when you get into the banks. You have to be able to lift it up enough so most of the blade is out of the snow, so you can back up.

If you can return the plow (if you bought it new) you can probably find a used snowblower for around the money spent on the Warn plow. I would never buy a snowblower under 8 hp though. The smaller machines don't handle slush well.

I dont think the little 150 can handle something as heavy duty as plowing snow. There's a reason why nobody makes a mount for it, its just not meant to do it. The smaller machines just can't handle the weight. You'd be spinning your tires the whole time and most likely break something and cause the engine to overheat. You really need at least a 400cc or bigger machine with 4x4 to plow snow. 500cc or more would be even better. I like the idea of buying a snowblower Moose mentioned. We don't get enough snow where I live to even need a plow or snowblower.

I agree that it's not enough power for a snowplow. I don't know how well built your ATV is but I'd be afraid of breaking something. I put 2 or 3 sandbags on my rear rack for traction. I don't think your ATV is supposed to have that much weight on it. You would probably sit there spinning your wheels.

These fellows are correct, as cheaply as these little imports are made I am sure it will not stand up to plowing. The snowblower is actually a better idea!! I had a Kawasaki Praire 300 4x4 and plowed snow for 16 years with it without any issues but that was a tough built, heavy duty ATV that weighed over 600lbs.

Of course it can be done, but there are many reasons why it shouldn't be done. It would have to be a custom made mount (expensive. The bike only weighs 300 lbs,) about half or less of a typical 400 cc machine. It has no low gear per say, so probably will burn up drive belt. It would have to be a manual mount that you raise and lower by hand vs winch. (charging system too small to support a winch). For about the same money, you could buy a 300cc or preferably bigger used non Chinese bike. Here is a picture of my $1,400 2002 Arctic Cat that I bought a year ago and on the right a 2001 Arctic Cat 500 that I bought several years ago for even less. 60" plow on the 400 and 72" plow on the 500. Most of the snow melted after I finished plowing, haha. The 500 plows way better than the 400, btw.

I thought my Praire plowed well, but the UTV is even better. More weight and HP and a wider blade gets the job done more quickly. For me with torn rotator cuffs, turning a steering wheel is much easier on my shoulders than turning the handlebars of the atv.
