Rectifier/Regulator failure
#1
Ok. So I’m out happily riding the trails when out of the blue I start loosing power, then appears a message on my speedo that read simply “Lo”. Very shortly after the engine quits. Luckily I was with a group and I got a tow home. Once home I got out my multi-meter and found a dead battery. That’s what the “Lo” message was all about. Well that message was too little too late. A little more testing and I come to the conclusion that the Rectifier/Regulator is toast. A new one has been ordered from RM Stator. Should be here fri.
What rots my socks about this is that there was no forewarning to the looming engine failure. A simple idiot light like what’s in a car could have prevented me breaking down far from home. I would like to have know about this problem a little sooner. I would have headed for home at the first sign of trouble. Has anybody put together such a circuit? Now I know some folks are going to say bad things about an idiot light. They say a gauge is better. Perhaps, if you’re looking at it. I tend to look at the road more. A bright in your face warning light would get ones attention sooner. Then there is also the matter of real estate. Not much room for a gauge. A light would be easier to find a spot for.
