Default 2005 diesel Super Duty: Wow!

I just saw my first 2005 Ford Super Duty truck yesterday. I noticed it sitting out in front of the Ford dealership with a great big 2005 decal on the windshield. It is a good thing they had that big lime green decal on the windshield, otherwise I would not have even noticed it. I thought they were going to redesign the super duty trucks for 2005. It looked close enough to the same as previous years to me that I would have driven right by without even looking at it.

Yeah, the sheet metal is a mild refining if you will. The big changes are under the truck. The design has been working good, so why screw with it too much? I think the lines are a bit harder and come from the Tonka show truck. And I love the big rig look with the dropped fenders. Dodge pioneered it with the '94 Ram and Ford ran with it for the '98 (or '99) Super Duties. It's been a huge success for both makes.

It's the parts of the truck that make a truck where Ford focused their efforts (and money). They bumped the towing abilities of the truck WAY up. 5th wheel tow capacity is up to like 16,500 now. New front suspension. Probably bigger brakes, stronger frame, intergrated brake controller (that's sweet in and of itself.) It's going to be interesting to see how GM and Dodge respond. I'm sure Ford patented the Integrated Brake Controller.

OK OK, I heard you the first time...j/k

Just my luck, I bought my 04' F-350 Powerstroke only a few months ago. I knew they were changing the body style slightly but I thought that was about it. Now I'm thinking I should have waited a few more months. Oh well, at least it's paid for.

So what was the fifth wheel towing capacity of prior Power Stroke trucks? I find it interesting that Ford bumped the towing capacity WAY up to 16,500 lbs, when my 2005 GMC is rated to tow 16,800 lbs, and an equal Dodge is rated to tow something like 17,400 lbs. I'll bet you are quoting the 3/4 ton trucks towing capacity at 16,500 lbs., and that the 1 ton Ford is rated higher than my GMC. GM has never been known as top dog in towing/cargo capacities, so it would surprise me if they were rated higher than Ford. I'm pushing maximum with my trucks rating of 16,800 lbs, because my toyhauler has a GVWR of 16,950 lbs. Looks like I need to stay on my diet

Does the 05 Ford still have the interior copied from a '58 International or did they update it as well?

LOL...no kidding. I understand the term "keeping it simple" but they really do need some modern interior updates.

Yep, its still like a 58, lol. I was hoping they would redesign the interior more than they did. I will be jumping ship to dodge in the next year or so when i am ready for a new truck.

I have been a total Ford guy since my first car in 1977. But I finally couldn't take it and bought a Chevy Duramax. The interior is light years ahead of the Ford. To spend 40 large in order to pull big weight up mountain passes then have to look at gauges with pictures of rabbits and turtles and "L" & "H" is more than insulting.
