First post here. Looking to get a 2005 yamaha big bear 4x4.
I have a 96 ford ranger stepside. The problem is the area between the wheel wells is 40.25"
The stock specs of the big bear is 43.7. Really a 3.5" difference or 1.75" on each side. Im sure there is some play with the tires giving...but that much?

Your best bet is to take a tape measure to your local stealer and measure the Big Bear to see exactly where it's the widest. If it's a finder above the bed rail, no biggie. But if it's something like the floor board of the bike, it's not going to give very much.

Yeah, the wheel wells arent too high...I was thinking of putting 2 2x6s across the bed(so that it was 4x6) so that the front rim(which I think will be the stopping point if it stops)will go above the wheel well and be okay.

Yeah I punched the winch-fairlead right through the back window and even bent part of the cab with it, Never try to load a quad bigger than a truck especially when that quad doesnt have brakes....
