Default Insulating Enclosed Trailer

Hey Bing,

I've actually though about chatting with ya to see how you did yours.
Thanks for asking..........

I spent hours at Home Depot today, aaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhhhhh
I got.....
6 - 110 outlets (2 GFI)
outlet boxes, cover plates, exterior outlet covers, etc
100' 12/2 outdoor wire
50' pvc pipe (to make it easier to run the wire under the trailer)

Here's what I'm looking at...........

Right now looking at keeping the 12volt and 110v systems seperate. No converter. That seems easier.
Mostly because I'm not sure how to tie them together.

Want to be able to use the power at campgrounds, and also use the generator when power is not available.

Did you do a breaker box?
If so, how did you do it? Run the power in? How many circuits? etc.........
110v system
Will use this basically for the outlets
Not sure if I'll put lights on this system, but I would like to I spose

Breaker box with possibly at least 2 circuits, both protected by GFI
4 outlets inside
2 outlets outside
Battery charger/maintainer
Eventually want to add an AC/heater unit on the roof
Not sure about lights, but I did find some AC/DC flourescent ceiling lights

12 volt system
Use mainly for the lighting.

Lighting 12v system
I'll have the interior lights
Flood light on front
flood light on rear
Flood light or two on one side
porch light on one side

Thanks a Bunch............

Well, those foam board were pretty easy to work with, got it all insulated
Looked like it was the middle of winter and snowed a ton by the time I was done

Got the primer and one coat of paint down on the floor.
For now, I went cheap..I just used some BEHR deck and porch paint, with epoxy in it. We'll see how it lasts.
Put some anti-slip additive in it.........
I got a Teal color, it's gonna look pretty good.......

I got some pictures I'll put up pretty soon.....

Got lots to finish up before leaving for Oregon on Tuesday

sir honestly i would take most of your breaker box back and just go buy a rv circuit box, it will have your circuit breakers for your 120 and have fuses for your 12v and your charging unit built into one nice box

i ran a ground cord (10 gauge SO) just like r/v's have
i can plug into hookups or the genny
that goes into a double box just inside my side door
left side of box has 3 switches stacked vertically
1st is one 150 exterior halogen on one side
2nd is two 150 watt halogens other side and rear
3rd control six 20 watt halogen puck lights (the kind that they use under a cabinet shining onto a counter) that light the interior

right side of box is gfci receptical which is also wired to 3 more recepticles located in the back of the trailer,,,and 2 on the exterior corners pointing down mounted to the underside of the floorboards
front left corner of the trailer has a 30 amp dedicated r/v plug (for the camper on my truck)(ac unit)

all was wired using romex (flexible metal encased stuff) except he thick black SO cord and the 30 amp dedicated

Default Insulating Enclosed Trailer

Hey there Lil Bill,

That is what I am doing now. Just plain easier to do it that way.
I'm gonna get a converter/charger and call it good.
Hopefully get that soon and get this thing done

Hey Bingy,
That sounds cool, looking forward to seeing yours soon.
The more I get into mine, the more I want to do
Should be pretty nice when I get her done....
I'm not being as picky and taking as much pride as I would like in the finished product
But I'm on a time crunch to get it done and it would take me forever to do every little detail I would like to do.
But it will be nice, be afraid to use it and get it dirty

Well, I got some pictures of the progress posted.

Quality isn't that great.
I turned the camera down so the pictures would be big enough to see, but got crappy quality.
If I get time, I'll turn it back up and take some more so they look a little better.

I used the foam styrofoam board from Home Depot.
The blue stuff you see on the wall studs is sill plate insulation.
I used spray adhesive to put that stuff on the steel studs. What a difference that made, it keeps the heat from radiating throught he steel studs, thus into the trailer. before you could feel the wall when the studs were warm and be able to tell wehre they were, now you can't feel any heat coming through.
Just have to get more to put on the ceiling.

I used BEHR Porch and Deck paint for the floor, with anti-slip stuff in the final coat. Including primer, I have 4 coats on.
I was gonna get Marine paint, but I wasn't thinking when I went to Home Depot and bought this stuff.
If this stuff doesn't work out, I'll do something different. Probably linoleum.

Cost so far:
$144.00 = The foam boards were $9 and change each, I used 16
$ 31.50 = 7 rolls of the blues sill insulation, 3" x 50' rolls
$ 80.00 = primer, paint for the floor, bottom wall pieces(2' high), and trim
$ 88.00 = Indoor/outdoor carpet for the floor while using it for camping

$343.00 Total so far. Not counting misc caulk and stuff....

As this will be used for sleeping and hauling, here is what I have left, I think........

What a dang project it is turning out to be, will be nice when it gets done.

    Thanks a bunch BING,

That sill seal actually makes a huge difference. I was wondering how I could cover the studs, and my neighbor suggested that stuff, thanks a bunch to him

Got some more of it today and finished up all the exposed metal on the ceiling.
Putting it all back together for now, finish up the details later after the trip.

got the carpet cut, that will make a nice difference, makes it way more cozy.

I'm so looking forward to using it now.

    Work in progress

Load up tomorrow, then off to Florence early Tuesday morning

Good Luck......... Any more questions, let me know...............

The other thing I do is peak into all the other trailers when I go riding.
I also work at a go-kart track sometimes, I look into all their's also.
That's a great way to get ideas for these trailers

    Have fun
