With the amount of duning that we do the TT isn't the best option. I'm kind of straddling the fence on what to do. This trailer was a gift and the couple told me to sell it if it wasn't what we needed.
Looks to only be worth $6-8k according to the RVTrader. I shouldn't say only as it's just going to cost me title, tax and fees but it would be nice to have a good down payment on a Toy Hauler should we go that route.
Once again, I appreciate all of the very valuable information you folks are providing. Keep it coming.

And it was really nice of your AUNT and UNCLE or other close RELATIVE to GIFT you this trailer.
If you haven't found the propane tanks, they may not be there. Usually they are located on the tongue of the trailer. Quick check to see if they are OPD is if the valve handle is triangular. If not, they aren't worth much. Sometimes you can get one of the less than bright Wal-Mart, etc. clerks to exchange the tank for a Blue Rhino and not catch that. But that's not honest or right. I picked up an OPD 5 gallon propane tank for $20 at Costco in January '04. They should be getting them in stock, if they haven't already. (Still haven't refilled it. LOL)
I would say post the GVWR of the trailer, as well as the GVWR, GCWR and GAWR of your F-150. Depending on how things are, it just might be pullable. Stress on the MIGHT. That's still a very large trailer. The GCWR of your truck is in the owners manual. Ignore Ford's tow rating (well, don't exceed it, but that's not really going to be helpful here.)

I don't mean to sound brash or too forthcoming by the following statement. But something about this doesn't add up to me. Please don't be mad for me asking. I just don't know of a soft way to word the question.
Here goes....
Why in the world would someone knowingly take possession of something like this without taking the time to find out if the vehicle they own will not handle it??? I guess I don't understand why anyone would have to ask if an F-150 would tow a trailer of this size.
Not to mention there's the cost of the fifth wheel hitch itself. Brake controller, trailer wiring, and possibly air bags for this type of load.
All of this goes without saying IMO.

Many people will take gifts without knowing much. My supervisor was given a boat by his father-in-law that had been setting since 1984 or so. So far he's into it for $2000 and we still haven't gotten it back together completely. (Pulled the engine November '04).
So far:
[*]Replaced the bearing in the intermediate outdrive (it's the part that mounts to the back of the motor, bascially a bell housing with a bearing and a knuckle gear thing)[*]Custom fabricated Aluminum fuel tank (was a galvanized steel tank...)[*]Fuel pump doesn't look good[*]Battery[*]Trailer tires, but those aren't the right type and will need to be replaced AGAIN.
Everything needs a really good cleaning. It sat in a barn, covered for about 20 years. Hopefully the seals, bearings, etc. hold up when we start it up. Maybe this spring. It's a PITA trying to get some parts for this thing. It's a boat so everything is different and special. Plus it's 30 years old. But it's only got about 30 hrs on it.

Buck,
Not mad at all, but he said it was not a 5th wheel (if it was, a 30' trailer would overload the rear axle of a F150). Ford claims some of their F150's can tow up in the 9000 pound range... and a 30' bumper pull could be within that.
Yeah, it would not be my choice of tow vehicle, but it looks like it could be witin his rated capacity.
Also, I would assume he agreed to take the trailer, not knowing much about it, thinking that if it turned out not to be something practical for him he could sell it.

Hang on here folks! Maybe it's my accent getting in the way, let me give a few details to hopefully square a couple of things away. I may be a Jarhead but I'm not a Moron. As I stated earlier, the Gentleman that gave me the trailer towed it with a 1992 F150 for nine years with no problem. I am well aware that the F350PSD (my dream vehicle) would pull it with no problem and will get one one of these days, I was just curious if the large V8 F150 could make a two or three hour trip on fairly level ground with no major complications. I live right in between Dumont and Glamis, 2&3/4hrs to either. Not TransContinental trips mind you. It's not a fifth wheel and I was given the brake controller and associated wiring, and the appropriate hitch and hardware. My 150 has the towing package, and as also stated earlier our winds are still unGodly at this hour so I haven't gone out to gather all useful data. Don't beat me like Rodney.
Christ Almighty! When I said I hadn't found the tanks I meant I have not yet looked them up on line to see the cheapest and quickest way to acquire them. There are indeed two old style tanks standing right there on the tongue just as you pointed out. Give a guy a break here, and as you just addressed BlackandRed, we are in discussions about the amount of vehicles required as we've already bought season passes to both Dumont and Glamis and this option would double that amount, along with fuel expenses also.
I "knowingly took posession of something like this" because I am trying to get a Toy Hauler and a third DS650. If nothing else I figured that I would clean it up real good (done), put it on the market and have enough for the DS when all was said and done, at virtually no cost to me other than time, title, tax and fees. Small investment for the return I hope all would agree.
The couple are not relatives, elderly neighbors who we took very good care of while some major health issues arose over the Summer. A gesture of thanks on their part, a very large thanks I feel. They insisted we have it and they are too old and feeble to even deal with getting rid of it so I'm helping them out once more. I guess I do benefit also!
Anyhow, I'm not venting or getting defensive here, there just seemed to be a liitle breakdown in communication and a general lack of the facts. I am probably going to sell it for said reasons but I also know first impressions go a long way, which is why I'm inquiring about the tires, tanks and such. The less a prospective buyer has to worry about the better off I'll be in the end.
Can't we all just get along???
BlackandRed nice pics, like the got rut? one.
And Buck, you're my Homey, why do you hate me so? Ever heard of Paragould? I've even got a 20yr old HOG tat on my right arm, before that dude that used to run CrossCountry for the Razorbacks got his!
So let me ask this, from all of your experience where would I fare the best? RVTrader, eBay. etc? I'm open to all suggestions. I have a digital camera so lots of pics can help I would assume, and I'm available for appointments to let anyone look it over. For those in Cali, about how long does it take for the title to come in?
Thanks Ya'll, you're still killer, but starting to drag me through the mud a little.

I'm what is referred to in the RV industry (at least the RVers) as a "weight ****." I was just asking for the info to see if you can swing the trailer. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. I'm glad to help you with the calcs when you won't become airborne from the wind. We just got done with about 2-3/4" of rain in about 24 hrs. That's insane up here. A big rain storm will drop 1" in a day.

That'd be nice...season passes to two giant playgrounds... LOL

A DS isn't the easiest thing to ride up there, but the width makes it easy to straddle the ruts. A friend road an '04 Baja X up there. Only had some problem getting around some closed gates. (Which is fine, gates just keep cars off a couple sections of roads.) It's a 2nd and 3rd gear place.

Getting back to his question, I think rvtraderonline.com is probably a good bet when you have it ready to sell.
I'd also say that in order to get the best price, it may be better to spend $100 to get new propane tanks and make sure all the propane appliances are working properly.
An RV that is ready to use will bring much more money, and a prospective buyer would be leary of a rig where he/she can't see the furnace work or the fridge run on propane.
Also, didn't mean any offense by kind of ignoring the part of your post about someone else having pulled the rig with a F150. I've seen many rigs go down the road that are majorly overloaded, and in an emergency like a tire failure or something pulling out in front of them... I'd be afraid of liability if I got into an accident and it were discovered I was significantly over weight.
Bottom line: Just because someone else did it, doesn't mean it's a good idea-- But I think you are OK, just get the numbers first.
Anyhow, good luck, and thank you for your service to our country and freedom.

I'd stick to rv.trader then ebay, myself. As far as getting a title issued to you in California, I have gotten them as quick as a week however, on average, I have received them in usually 2 weeks. DMV says they usually take up to 4 weeks.

Don't know about there but here (ky) I had no problem trading off my old propane tank. Do you all have trade in "stations" in mini-marts / gas stations? Last winter I took the old tank from my grill in to a local BP station. The guy swaped it out no problem. I recall a sign on the tank locker showing the diffrent valve handles of the old and new style vavles. ! want to say I even recall a sign stating that they would accept the tanks no problem. If memory serves it was that Blue Rhino outfit.
As to the truck, well I have to say it. No way on a TT that long. I have a 24' enclosed car trailer I tow behind a 99 F-350 single rear wheel diesel. There is no way I would consider pulling it behind a 150, even empty. A good gust from a passing semi and you will probably figure out the trailer is capable of controlling the truck!!!
Good luck!!
