ACE trailers.

Went to ACE hardware today and notice parked outside was 3 trailers for sale. I think the 5x6 was like $599 the 5x8 was $649 and the 5x10 was $799. The 6 and 8 had little new 12 in tires on it and the 10 had 14 in tires. All mesh and a ramp. Kind of like lowes carries, but from a different name. Cant remember the name. I wonder if this is just my local ACE thats doing this or is it others. If so what type of luck have you had with these trailers. Oh and there T tounge not Y. And which is better. Seems like the Y would keep you from twisting.......

Man you're really worried about trailers twisting aren't you. Just look at the trailer next time you're around, if it has bolts on the deck, then don't worry about it twisting.
But seriously, it depends on the design really. I have a T type of tongue on a kayak trailer and it's beefy as hell but it's heavy too, I can barely lift the tongue. Biggest thing is whether or not it's a tilt/dump bed, which is very popular on the smaller styles like this. If it is a tilt, then the pivot may be close the the axle, meaning that the front is unsupported and since there is only going to be a latch at the front part of the deck, then that becomes a pivot point, so if you put weight on one corner, the other may pop up. However, if it's not a tilt and the tongue/deck material is strong and it's welded where that latch was, which is how my kayak trailer is, then you're simply not going to notice any twisting at all. On the other hand, if you get the V style of tongue, if where the tongue attaches to the frame is a weak point and it's not a wrap-tongue, then this style can flex/twist like crazy. There's just too many variables.
FYI - trailers from hardware stores are overpriced. A 5x10 for $800? Jeez. They look good but are typically pretty flimsy. I will say that since they are built in a factory that the wiring and stuff is typically perfect, but they are still shipped in a box and made for having a small shipping footprint plus providing the store with a big profit, so they are simply overpriced for what you get. Go buy something custom made with some beef to it and you won't have to worry about making sure your wood is bolted down to prevent twisting.

I see a lot of topics on these smaller trailers offered by places like Home Depot and other hardware type stores. I'm amazed at what people will do to save money on a trailer.
Why would anyone spend $500-$700 on a small trailer like that when they can buy a brand new 16' trailer for $800 all day long?

home depot and places like that hope ppl will buy them with thier credit cards and then they make at least a third more than the posted price with the finance charges. These guys have good advice, heed it and you could end up saving hundreds in repairs and end up with a great trailer lasting for years. just my .02.

About five miles east of me. You have to remember we are in a totally different market in my area of the world. If stuff sold for that kind of money around here it wouldn't sell at all.
