i cant remember what they said the rpm difference was between those gears. i tried to tow a my trailor up an 11 percent grade at 4000 feet and i was doing a wopping 15 miles an hour in first gear. once i got over the 11 percent grade it was easier but not what i wanted. i have a stupid super lite weekend warrior fs2500 and its not very lite at all 5000 lbs before any gear water or gas. i figured i was towing about 6700 lbs. as far as braking coming down the four lane which is the 168 i did not seem to have any problems keeping it under control as far as speed wise. they said i would be fine as long as i did not try to do 80.

Here are some rough numbers for you. With a ratio of 3.73 you are running 1600 rpm in OD and 2300 in 3rd gear doing 65mph. If you were to install 4.56's you would be running 2800 rpm in 3rd and 2000 in OD. Now if you install 4.88's, you would be running 3000 rpm in 3rd gear and 2100 rpm in OD. All of these numbers were assuming you were driving 65 mph. Depending on how often you tow your trailer, you may want to think about the gas mileage while empty.
