Got an 05' F-350 Powerstoke 6.0L with the edge chip. Unloaded on the highway at 65-70 I get about 26mpg. No joke. With the 26ft V-nose inclosed with a bunch of machines in it I get about 20 mpg at the same speeds. I dunno but this truck is just great on fuel. Def happy with it. But whatever you do do not but an 04' powerstroke 6.0L. Had one of those, piece of junk, so many bugs in the electronics, tranny sucked and had to be replaced, thankfully I only had it for a year. O and don't buy one of the first year duramax's, lots of them came from factory with craked engine blocks, I think that was 01', but after that they're good. Hope that helps.

Hey there MrSummit,
My 27' 5th wheel weighs in at about 8,000#. It has a relatively aerodynamic front end even though I can still stand up in the bedroom (I'm 5'8").
Just started having a problem 2 weeks ago with the truck.......When I'm NOT towing. While going up a long hill at about 50-55mph, the tranny will normally drop down to a lower (?) gear and the speed drops to 45-50 mph and the Tach drops to 1500rpm. All of a sudden I feel this backward jerking sensation like someone is jerking on the back of my belt really quick and sharp. When I give it some gas to get out of that gear and the speed and tach increase, the sensation goes away. Also, if I mash the pedal to get into passing gear, it goes away. At first I thought it was the fuel filter under the drivers side of the truck but now I'm not so sure. Maybe a sensor in the tranny not telling itself to shift????? I does not do it on flat road, only while going uphill. Service dept, here I come, again!!!!!!!

Update on my truck problem---
Went to Chevy dealer today. Had the Sr. Tech ride up hills with me. Truck bucked as usual at 1500 rpm/45mph. He said it sounded like a misfire. The "Check Engine" light had not come on. He then hooked up a diagnostic reader and went out for a ride himself. The engine misfired 152 times in a few seconds!!!!! "Check Engine" light finally came on.
Turns out the following was wrong:
1. Partially clogged fuel filter (had not been replaced in 2-3 years).
2. TWO cracked plugs and one plug half covered in carbon.
Solutions:
1. Replace fuel filter.
2. Replace 8 plugs and wires.
Result: SOLVED!!!!! No bucking sensation while going uphill anymore. More snappy too.

Now I know this is over the top; but simply said, just go get a simple 5.9 liter in-line six (guess where i'm going with this). All good trucks, but nobody can challenge the pure torque of that little bitty straight six. Heck, our good friends at GMC have to go to a twin torbo to surpase that little bitty straight six. Sounds like a lot of boo for an extra 30hp and 40 FT pounds. Think about it; talk to everyone you know.
Have fun and ride safe ....
