I assume you're talking about running "red diesel." Well if they are running on the road with red, they deserve what they get. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] I'm sure a rebuilt motor will be more expensive than the fuel tax they saved. And red diesel will be switching over to ULSD.

Big Farms use Big Rigs to pull grain and so on.....they would be allowed to run red diesel. We have huge cumins tubo diesel generators that also can run red diesel. (1000 Amp and 600 Amp)

 

True on the rigs around the farm, didn't think about. I assumed someone was talking about regular pickups and running them on red. We run red in some equipment we have for work, Ditch Witches, fork lift, compressor, etc.

We just set an 1100 kw CAT (C32 I think) generator on Friday at a jobsite. Not the biggest they make, but wasn't too small either. I'm sure that's not going to be cheap to fill that tank up. Tank is about 20'x8'2'.

Yes, its red fuel. You get it a lot cheaper than at the pump

 

Red = Red dye = non road taxed fuel
green = green dye = road taxed fuel

The change thats causing this to be a problem with the 2008 6.4 and other 2007 trucks is the new ultra low sulfur fuel that has almost completed its transition, is all that can be ran in them . Some Offroad fuel (Red fuel) is also ultra low sulfur as well it depends on where you are at, and what your jober is selling. So in some cases you could still run offroad fuel, as long as its ultra low sulfur fuel. Not that its legal, just that if its ultra low sulfur fuel it does not matter what color it is. If its a pre 07' truck it does not matter rather its ultra low or just low sulfur fuel nor does the color effect the motor.

 

Correction.... the new 6.7L Cummins in the Dodge pickups IS 2010 complient!

 

The last meeting I had with my fleet rep who reps both Dodge and Ford, he told me it was not, so if thats right and it now is complient, good deal. The PSD school/meeting I attended last fall said the same thing that the GM and Dodge were not 2010 complient. So thats good for dodge, What direction did they end up going to get there. I know Benz was recently approved for the blue-tech eurea injection process on there US diesel SUVs and cars including the new jeep. I was pretty sure that dodge and in terms of the cummins they were not looking at the eurea injection approach like the Benz motors took.

 

Just EGR crap and diesel particulate traps. Btw, Dodge has said it will be 2010 compliant since they announced the 6.7L. Sounds like your rep can't even pick up a brochure and read...Don't know how much info I would get from him. For info go to Diesel truck resource. Also take a look on Dieselstop.com, looks like the 6.4L Fords are having lots of issues already.

 

Last time we talked was back in January about the new diesels. I was at the dealership a couple weeks ago for service and they still did not have the new brouchures out yet. But either way, I am glad to here its 2010 complient.
