Wheel barrel as a ATV trailer, crazy or not?

Another problem I could see on a trail is the ruts.
Still, I think if any trailer designers are out there reading this thread, they've gotten enough information to make a prototype.

Please don't take this personal, but I just have to say it, that may work for yard work or smooth trail, but it has - here it comes, sorry if I offend anyone ___ REDNECK ___ written all over it !!!!!! with no suspension , that thing would bounce like a pogo stick over rocks and ruts and sticks, launching your cargo all over the trail ,or to the back of your head !!

The cooler full of ice and stuff weights 70lbs at least surely it can,t bounce much with that much weight in it? LOL
I already have a 150lb ATV trailer like this that works but its like bringing a extra ATV along because it needs to be trailered down the highway itself.

you got me there, just couldn't resist the shot. A trailer like yours would be a lot more stable than a wheelbarrow.

Ha Ha,
That is exactly what I used to make my little trailer.
See the pictures below.
I used 2" abs to make the coupling brace.
A piece of angle iron with some thru bolts to anchor that to a Spherical hiem joint to act as the pivot point.
I used some 1" stainless steel square tubing to create a tongue receiver type of hitch that connects to the quad.
The wheels were off a golf cart that where also used on my Jetski tote that I made 20 years ago.
The axle is a piece of 1/2" stainless round, with 1/2" pvc spacers between the axle mount and the hub.
The hub is a 6" diameter aluminum rem that I drill a center hole in and 4 holes for the lug nuts.
I used gm studs and lug nuts left overs from my Goat restore.
I had all this stuff laying around and I have been using this around the the house for about 10 years.
I have put at least 200 to 300 pounds of concrete and dirt and this thing is bullet proof.
It is stable and about the same with as the quad i pull it with.
I use my sons trx90 that I upgraded to a Lifan 140 with clutch when he got bigger.
Now he has moved up to my 86 trx 250r and my youngest will soon be learning on it once I put the 90 auto back in it.
You have to go with the axle to prevent it from rolling over, I just used 1/2 lock collars on the ends to keep the hub in the right position.
If anyone want more pic, I try and upload more.
Total cost was the wheel barrow from HD.
This unit can be broken down in about 5 minutes, just loosen 1 collar and slide the axle the axle out and they lay in the wheel barrow, the abs is just slides down on the arms and locks down with a couple of strikes with a mallet.
It is cracking and and need to be replaced after all these years, but still works, for the trail I would put a thru bolt to anchor them on the arms, or a pin of sorts.
Ideally you could break it down all the way and every thing fits into barrow and lay the arms in the bed of the truck.

Making things do what there not made to do is the fun part. I can drag it over a log alot easier than pushing it even if the wheel came off.

Holy cwap, now thats a wheelbarrow !! Did Tim Allen help you build that bad boy ?? lol, the dual wheels outside the frame definately make it a bit beefier than your standard wheelbarrow.
It's Tool Time !!

Well if tim allen was involved he would have adapted a motor to it.
Most of the time I still use it as a wheel barrow, the wheels outside make it very stable and quite easy to move. It is easy to push or pull in sand or mud.
I most recently used it to pour concrete in a hard to reach area that a bobcat could not even reach.
The design of it comes from jetski totes we made in the 80's. We needed something to be able to pull down to the ocean across the sand or attach to a quad. It also would work on the launch ramps.
Although the jetski's of the 80's were around 300 pounds no one wanted to carry them to the water or use the launch ramp and get in line with the boats.
I am most likely going to build another one with my dirt tires from my quad, to haul all my stuff to the places 4 wheelers can not get too.
Its cheap and easily disassembles for storage.
