Does anyone use the trailer dog for transporting their ATV? I am thinking about purchasing one of these to haul my ATV.

You're gettin a whole mess of learnin today.

 

I'm trying to dismay that whole "old dog theory".

 

Understand the concept, but I have seen 700 lbs of rolling weight rip right through a steel deck. It would depend on how you mounted it I guess. You hit the brakes in an emergency stop and I wonder what would happen. Me, I trust the 4 straps I put on my machine more. I definately reccommend quality ratchet straps over the cheaper friction types.

 

They also have a louisana guard dog made by kolpin that mounts in your trucks trailer hitch and then to the ATV hitch.

 

I wonder how the front is held in place? In the past, I have had a strap come loose on the back, and have seen the quad slide around on the trailer,still held down in front, but allowed to "pivot" on the anchor point. What would prevent that from happening with the rear onlytied down? I agree with Draggin, seems all the force would be concentrated at the one point, and any situation that would require you to take a corner a bit hard, or sudden lane changes to avoid something on the road could possibly rip that loose, or even damage the quad, if the anchor point was solid enough. I use good quality straps, and now knot the extra strap around the latch, and have never had one come loose, even on 14 hr trip to another state at freeway speeds. In the back of a pickup, where the quad is limited on where it can move, it would seem ok, but as as single anchor point on a flat bed trailer, I would be a bit nervous.
