I know I just didn't want the OP to get the wrong idea, I am also not sure what size he is looking at. My father is towing a 24x8 enclosed trailer and it can get heavy fast, but it is also behind a diesel dually, I wouldn't recommend a small block gasser to tow such a trailer unless you were really committed to it.

I like the enclosed trailer that SmartDave suggested. My only concern would be brakes. I didn't see brakes listed in the details. His diesel truck is heavy enough to stop that load, your Nissan would concern me if it is fully loaded.

Also, 1eep has some great thoughts. Definately try one out before you buy. My 14 ft enclosed trailer acts like I have a drag chute behind me. It lowers my gas mileage by 7 to 8 mpg whereas my 18ft open flatbed trailer only lowers my mpg by 1 -2 mpg. Of course, my gasser 1/2 ton truck is no comparison to his diesel.

electric brakes are cheap when compared to the investment of all of the equipment(truck, trailer, quads, your family). easy to gain speed, harder to stop. you don't want your truck, whatever truck, to experience the glazed doughnut effect on the brakes. trailer brakes are well worth the money.

over a certain weight rating they have to have brakes, not sure if it 2000 or 3000lbs.

It varies by State.

I think NC is 2000lbs.

I have a 6.5 ft by 14 ft single axel open utility trailer. I haul 2 yamaha wolverine 450s, and two dirtbikes without having to load any on sideways. I can fit 3 atvs and 2 dirtbikes on it. Before buying, i did hours of research tryping to find the perfect trailer. I would go with an open trailer (that way if you need to, you can easily load them on sideways). With a growing family, i would get an open car holder arount 20 ft.
