Yes. I notice that Polaris Sportsman was underlined on one of my posts.

That started last year in July with Polaris buying "tough". P!ssed off a few people. I don't agree with it, but whatever. Now some of the ads around here can bring a machine to a crawl. Get about 6 friggin animated Flash ads rolling...whew. Running on a 2GHz P4...coming to a crawl...that's just WRONG right there. Network Admin here got tweaked at the bandwidth being used and now filters ad servers and stuff.

The problem I had was the changing someone's normal text, into a link advertisement. Yeah, it was a different color, big whoop. How many pay attention to the color of the links? Only time I do is when I'm working on a web site and I'm specifically changing the link text. To me it always looked liked it was the poster making the link.

I don't mind advertising, as long as it's not obnoxious to the point of ruining the user experience. You can put multiple ads on a page, and it won't ruin the experience. The right side panel ads are a step. Ads done well in the layout: check out CNN. They just redisgned this weekend. There's one flash add towards the upper-right. And two more on the bottom right. They fit a particular guideline. CNN probably says ok you can buy this ad-space that's X pixels by Y pixels. DO NOT DEVIATE. And the same for any other ad-space. The ads fit in and are unobtrussive.

There was a big today once about I think it was MS was going to insert code into IE that would do the text ad thing. Or it might have been a plug-in, not sure. But it would do that on ANY site. Now it's possible for the site to do it. Not sure what they are doing, it could be a mix of JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets and who knows that else. Could also be what's called AJAX. The best known AJAX site is Google Maps. Turns the browser into more of an application. Web app done RIGHT.

I just feel like advertising is being rammed down our throats. every movie has so much product placement, it's distracting. every stadium is now corporate sponsored, and the TV and Radio guys repeat the corporate sponsor's name more than they EVER used the old stadium name. I might have heard them mention the Kingdome a couple of times, but I've heard Qwest field 1000's of times. There are banners all over on every website, which is fine, they need to pay for it somehow, but renting words used in somebody's posts is too much. I'll just spell it differently. tuuf. poolaris.

"Honesty is the key to a relationship.
If you can fake that, you're in."
