Fuel lift pump needed to be replaced, something with the wiring to it also needed repair, like I said the thing is becoming a money pit.

Sounds like you got the lift pump upgrade (in tank and not on side of block) which all them will eventualy get as the old style one is a crappy design. You are not the only person with this issue! But the new design is great fix!

Yeah, I think they switched mid 05 from filter mounted to in tank pump.

I ordered my truck today. I'm getting a 2010 Ram 3500 Crew Cab ST long bed 4wd dually. It is going to have an automatic transmission, the ST Popular Equipment Group, a trailer brake controller, and 3.73 gears. As of now, I'll be getting the truck for $1000 below invoice, and if incentives are better when I take delivery I can choose the better incentives. Now I get to hurry up and wait for the next 8 weeks.

I think it's a good choice. Motortrends truck of the year. Here's the article with one quote from it:
"Maximum towing capacity for the Ram 3500 is 17,500 pounds, significantly higher than the F-350's 16,000 or the Silverado/Sierra 3500HD's 13,000."

I think a lot of people get 4.10's that don't really need it, but with this double overdrive if you are going to tow 10,000+ most of the time and run in the hills, I'd probably opt for the 4.10's.

That 68RFE turns lower RPM on the freeway than my 6 speed manual does with 3.73's.

You will have to upgrade any of the High Pressure common rail trucks (03-05) if you are going to change the Lift pump as it in now required by Chrysler and its the only way you can fix a faulty lift pump.

Geno's sells the filter mounted pump, if a person needed to do a fast repair and didn't have time to drop the tank and do the conversion.

At least the CP-3 isn't damaged when the lift pump dumps. On the VP44 the truck could continue to run without head pressure, but it would damage the injection pump. Adding a fuel pressure gauge or at least a warning light is a good idea on trucks from that era.

If you can find any of the 2500-5500 that were of cab and chassis design (no bed) they use a Aisin (think Toyota) 6 speed and with a PTO output on them. These were even a nicer setup than the 68RFE's.
