For all of you who think that the 6.7 Cummins is a joke compared to the 5.9 read this the Futuer of the Cummins B engine.
6.7L Cummins Diesel Engine - Dodge Ram Trucks - Diesel Power Magazine
And lets not forget that Cummins and Chrysler just inked a new multi year contract together!

Now towing and stop and go is another story but for a daily driver truck the Hemi is more economical and IMO a pinch more fun to drive in town!
I too traded from a hemi 2500 to the cummins and now I get so much better fuel milage. The best I could get out of the hemi empty was around 14mpg. This is with a 2500 4WD 5 speed in an 04. I have an 06 auto and get 20 -22 empty and 14 pulling my camper. With the hemi I was lucky to get 6 or 7 out of it when towing my camper plus it really didn't like all that weight tied to its butt either. It struggled bad towing. 5th gear was useless with anything over 4500lbs and with around 10K or so it was a shifting party just to keep it going. With the cummins I can hook up to 10Klbs and go down the road with no shifting unless I get into some pretty good hills. For work you just can't beat the cummins. The hemi might be more fun to play in stock form but can't touch the cummins at work.

my buddy has a hemi and claims 17 to 18 mpg normal driving, towing a 8k camper out west he got like 8 mpg. love my cummins, cant feel the power till your pulling a big load love going up hills gaining speed passing up gassers.

should mention i was going to buy a 08 2500 hemi 5 speed, but the day i went to buy it a new owner was loading it up on flat bed to haul back south..i was a little mad for like 5 min till my cummins was noticed in the lot.

There were many running changes to the engine and in the 2006 year model the 6.0 had the lowest rate of warranty claims across the board for Ford Motor Company when compared to all of Ford's gas and diesel engines.

They claim there were fewer of the late model 6.0L's going in for warranty work than there ever was of the old reliable 7.3L. There's a difference between perception and truth. People living in glass houses, or that own a Dodge, should not throw stones.

Per wardsdealer.com, the claim rate of product revenue 2007 (percent of revenue used on warranty claims):
Ford 2.6%
GM 2.7%
Toyota 1.3%
Honda 1.3%

and drum role please..tat tat tat.....Chrysler - 3.7%. Last place.

Chrysler needs to steep up with the new ZF6speed auto esp for 3/4 ton use and a Hemi that would help tremendously., but I cannot complain for a daily driver it works great and can haul a occasional load/ATV without a problem!

Ford can claim all they want but I would take 7.3 over any other offering Ford has including there new 6.7 P/S. Ford or whoever can claim whatever number they want about repair numbers as they don't mean a thing when you engine can make it past 200.00 miles!

Ford can claim? Sorry to confuse you with facts. You can turn this into a pissing contest if you want but just because YOU claim something it doesn't mean a dang thing either.

What facts are in dispute? Did you not read Ford or WHOMEVER saying these #s I was stating as I felt/ know. This is how the real word works and I think I know a thing or two about diesels as I work on them for a living! P.S. I always up for a good truck conversation!!!!

Funny, actually ford was on my list 1st acually, till i did my research and didnt like what i read about the 6.0, i have friends with 7.3s and love them and have been for the most part trouble free. everyone i know with a 6.0 5 to be exact have had nothing but problems with them? whatever..see i didnt slam ford..just the 6.0! heard they sued intl over all the problems? now just a quick google i see tons of major problems with the new motor? if they are so good why are they getting another new motor (scorpion) or something? whats that tell yah? cummins designes havent really changed since the begining.

now i would of went with a Dmax but couldnt find one in my price range, so i ended up with a Cummins and couldnt be happier..sure they have been known for bad trannies oh well! but there motors will last way longer then any ford motor, is cummins the best? dunno is it better then a 6.0 oh yes, AS far as Ford Claims they are claims.

heck i might believe to much i read on the net. you know whats funny when i bought my dodge last summer i was talking to a wrench at the dealer and told him what i have read about the 6.0 and he told me he wouldnt own one either..and this is from a dealer who is one of the biggest used truck dealers in the us.

Really? Because I know a couple people with the 6.0L and they've never had any trouble. But I don't have to pull the old "I know someone" card because I OWN ONE. 3 years, 2months, 39K and dear Lord can you believe it! It's a miracle!!! ....never been in the shop.

And as for the why are they switching, I've already been over that with you. You didn't get it then, you probably won't get it now. Emissions and the lawsuit. Funny how Dodge is basically the same motor, they don't have to switch. Well guess what? The 6.0 and 6.4 are basically the same engine, too. The new engine is because Ford opted not to renew its contract with International because they would not pay for warranty work. Would you have stuck with them, even if they resolved the quality issues?

After owning two I have more reason to bash Dodge than most. They were 10 times the trouble of any Ford I've owned and it wasn't the engine causing the problems. Both had major electrical problems, some that left me stranded, and the icing on the cake was all the plastics cracking. Pure quality, let me tell you. Glad you're happy with yours.
